Maximum number of Undefeated Teams at the End of the Regular Season:
12: The 10 conference champs, plus Notre Dame and Army. That's two fewer than last week thanks to several independent teams losing.

Teams with 1st loss:
Week 0 and 1: 35.38% (46 of 130)

Week 1 Thoughts:
With college football, even these early season games can prove a big deal for the whole season. It's the beauty and the tough part of the sport. I'm not going to go super in depth, but here are a few random thoughts.
The PAC-12 is going to have an uphill battle for the playoff bowls. It, by no means, is out of the race, but the conference was going to have an uphill battle in most cases regardless and Oregon beating Auburn would have been a real showplace for it. The close loss leaves less margin for error.
Group of Five NY6 bowl bid very wide open, but once again looks like biggest competitors between American and Mountain West teams. Boise State comeback win vs. Florida State is very big for keeping them higher in the early discussions this year and Nevada came away with a good win vs. Purdue. The American is probably in best position again though with UCF's blowout win, Memphis's win vs. Ole Miss, and Cincinnati taking out UCLA.
Every conference had it's issues. Best overall weekend seemed to be Big 12 as they went undefeated, but was not a challenging week (still getting by without any loses always great).

Week 2 Thoughts:
If I counted right, we have 26 games between undefeated FBS teams this week. Biggest deal games are probably: LSU @ Texas (this one will be a very big deal for the Big 12 with a Texas win) and Texas A&M @ Clemson (Clemson losing starts the ACC pretty low this season).

Remaining Undefeated Teams: ACC: 7, American Athletic: 8, Big 12: 10, Big Ten: 12, Conference USA: 8, MAC: 7, Mountain West: 9, PAC-12: 8, SEC: 9, Sun Belt: 4, independents: 2, total: 84

It is interesting how quickly the maximum potential undefeated teams is dropping.  With Army at Michigan this week and ND at UGA coming up we will likely be down to just the conference champions in a few weeks.
