OTHER NOTES
2006
  • 12 game season became standard
  • Instant replay now standard across FBS
  • Attempting to speed up the game the clock now starts on the kick, rather than the reception, and on change of play, when the ball is spotted, not when snapped
  • ABC began merging their production into ESPN's with unified graphics, and calling their production ABC on ESPN
  • 8:00 ABC game was made the weekly marquee game, after previously sharing it with the 3:30 game
  • Florida became the first champion of the 5 bowl BCS with double hosting, playing the week after Boise State upset Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl
2007
  • Timing rules implemented in 2006 were removed
  • North Texas and Navy set the record for points in a quarter and in a regulation game, on November 10, scoring 63 2nd quarter points, giving North Texas a 49-45 halftime lead, before losing 74-62
  • There were 59 times where a ranked team lost to a lower ranked team, including a record 13 upsets of top 5 teams by unranked teams, the first upset of a ranked team by an FCS team (Appalachian State over Michigan), the #2 team losing on 7 of 9 consecutive weeks (6 of the 7 to unranked teams), and the top 2 teams losing on the same weekend three different times, after not happening at all in over a decade
  • Colt Brennan set the FBS record for passing TDs and total TDs
  • Only 2nd time in BCS era that there was no undefeated team, with Kansas being the only 1 loss BCS conference team, and LSU being the first 2 loss team to be recognized by the AP or Coaches as a national champ since 1960 Minnesota (with 1990 Colorado at 10-1-1 being the most recent team with two non-wins)
  • Sonny Lubick and Lloyd Carr retired after the season

2007 is one of the best seasons ever in terms of entertainment, 2006 is one of the worst.  Starting with those god awful clock changes

I first met all of you fine folks in 2007.

I also went to a game in Seattle where USC was charged for 200 yards of personal foul penalties against Jake Locker. Despite all of the Trojans' screw ups, Ty Willingham's Washington team refused to take the game from USC despite every attempt to hand it to them.

I'm voting for Florida's 2006 NC season, knowing full-well that 2007 is going to roll.

2007 is the answer but damn it’s hard to vote for that as a Mountaineer fan.

2007 is an all timer for me.  Inner circle top 3 season in my 35+ years of cognitive viewing.
