4 point loss
They beat a team that will win nine games unless it takes a bad upset. 
It's a soft nine-win team, but the nature of college football is things rarely look good when you ask who did you beat beat, and this year the gooey middle of the upper echelon has an ACC middle class feel.

Kentucky has a peak MSU resume, but with a couple more losses.  Their SOS and SOR is really good.  But they aren't beating anyone, including the teams they should, convincingly, so the methods that value that more don't like them
Bingo. I think it would be best to say this. They are relatively accomplished, but not strong. 
They're also gonna hurt their SOS by playing Louisville, which is just great.
