After watching the WMU v. USC highlights I'm a little nervous for State.
Really?  I went the opposite way.  We have to kick away from their burner.  He killed us two years ago, and did it to USC.  That's a must.

But aside from that, looking at the boxscore, I'm actually a little puzzled how it was close.

But I was more nervous after seeing the score than I was looking at the numbers.

WMU scored 16 points on Wisconsin in the Cotton Bowl.  How did the Buckeyes do in their bowl game?
Not nearly as well as they did in THE GAME!

Have to clean up the turnovers and special teams.  When you've given up 3 touchdowns through 2 games, and none by your defense, that's a bit off.

Not reading too much into shutting down their passing attack, their QB simply isn't good.  But that team ran all over USC, and MSU gave them nothing.

I think the coverage lapses are there for better QBs to pick apart, but how many QBs like that will MSU face?  Aside from McSorley and Lagow there isn't a QB on the schedule who looks capable of consistent passing accuracy.  Speight and Thorson look to have regressed.  They don't play Hornibrook or Lee.  Hell, or Blough.  Obviously Hill and Barrett are tough but not due to arm accuracy.

Where does Western currently fit in the pecking order of directional Michigan Mac schools?

Probably No. 1 still until we get more data.
But the other two are coming on.

They still have way better trench play than EMU or CMU.  Those guys were still legit.
But at the most important position, WMU is SERIOUSLY lacking.  And I think a lot of the other skill position players are exposed without Corey Davis threatening to take the top off.
That said they did just run for 250+ yards on 5.5 ypc on USC, so I think MSUs defensive improvement can take some credit for taking their RBs out of the game.
