Remaining Undefeated Teams Before Week 11
« on: November 10, 2020, 10:34:08 AM »
Teams with 1st Loss Week 10:
Clemson
Arizona State
UCLA
Stanford
Oregon State
Ball State
Northern Illinois
Eastern Michigan
Bowling Green
Akron
Ohio U.
Boise State
San Diego State

Maximum number of Undefeated Teams at the End of the Regular Season:
10: BYU, Liberty/Coastal Carolina, Alabama, Notre Dame, Cincinnati, Marshall, and the champs of the Big Ten, PAC-12, Mountain West, and MAC

Percent of Undefeateds with 1st Loss:
Week 1: 6.5% (5 of 77)
Week 2: 18.1% (13 of 72)
Week 3: 13.6% (8 of 59)
Week 4: 33.33% (17 of 51)
Week 5: 35.3% (12 of 34)
Week 6: 22.7% (5 of 22)
Week 7: 7.5% (5 of 67) -Added 50 teams to list.
Week 8: 24.2% (15 of 62)
Week 9: 12.8% (6 of 47)
Week 10: 31.7% (13 of 41)

Week 10 Thoughts:
-Lets just start by saying that Indiana is 3-0 with wins over Penn State and Michigan. We don't get to say that often.

-Notre Dame defeated Clemson to take top of ACC. If Clemson wins out, they will be playing Notre Dame again for championship and if both win out till then, it is possible both get in CFP (although Notre Dame would probably need to avoid a blowout loss to a healthier Clemson and Clemson can not afford another loss).

-Florida beat Georgia and now is overwhelming most likely to make it to Atlanta from the SEC East (need to drop 2 to prevent). The other team this helped is Texas A&M. The Aggies beat Florida but lost to Alabama and are not going to Atlanta unless the Tide drop 2. They will be favored the rest the way though with their toughest game the season ender @ Auburn. Win out and they will be high on playoff radar for 4th spot.

-Mountain West had a bad week from a NY6 perspective with Boise State losing to BYU. Two weeks into the schedule and only 2 teams remain unbeaten (San Jose State and Nevada). Given the American strength last few years and undefeateds still in Marshall and Coastal Carolina, this probably is not a year the Mountain West will get in with a 1 loss team so they need Nevada or San Jose State to perform.

PAC-12 got started for 8 of 12 teams. Given, very short season, nothing less than undefeated is likely to get them in CFP bowls.

-BYU's win over Boise probably does not get them beyond discussion for CFP, but was the most difficult thing left on their schedule. They are close to cementing a NY6 spot with only a couple games left.

-Its been a good year for independents and traditional independents. In their one year in a conference, Notre Dame is atop the ACC, BYU and Liberty are undefeated, and Army only has 1 loss. Liberty for its part is rising in ranking. It will stand a chance at a NY6 bowl if it wins out, but will likely be on the edge.

Week 11 Thoughts:
-Going to cut it short again this week as still using phone. All games between undefeates are in the PAC-12 and MAC which are in their 2nd week of play.

Remaining Undefeated Teams: ACC: 1, American: 1, Big Ten: 5, Big 12: 0, Conference USA: 1, MAC: 6, Mountain West: 2, PAC-12: 8, SEC: 1, Sun Belt: 1, independents: 2, total: 28
