The fog here in SE Michigan last night was of the variety that got Rudolph summoned to the point of Santa's sleigh.

Merry Christmas, y'all.

FACT OF THE DAY:

Santa's list of "naughty" and "nice" children has its roots in Belgium and the Netherlands where their version of Santa Claus, Sinterklaas, kept a similar list. The Norse god Odin kept two ravens that would listen at people's chimneys to find out who was good or bad.

Since my wife and I have been dating, I've spent every Christmas but 1 at my in-laws. They live in the Ann Arbor area, so I've spent a fair bit of time getting acquainted with the area.

The fact that it's Christmas and 50 degrees is very strange.

I was there last Thursday through Tuesday to visit friends and family for the holidays. We did get one cold day with some good snow flurries.

Merry freaking Christmas!

Whirlwind weekend, of the best kind.

Saturday 12/23 we had our annual eggnog party.  That's pretty late in the season, usually it's 2 weeks earlier and so of course a lot of our friends were already out of town.  It was mostly family and that's okay too, it was great having more time to spend with individual folks than we usually have.

Sunday 12/24 we woke up, baked gingerbread cookies and watched It's A Wonderful Life and White Christmas.  Then we went to our annual Christmas Eve movie (Wonka, which we all really enjoyed), then came home and decorated the cookies while watching Rudolph and Frosty, then went to Christmas Eve church service with my folks, then had our annual Christmas Even dinner with my parents which was BBQ pork tenderloin, sausage and cheese grits, twice baked potatoes, yeast rolls, and some other stuff I'm forgetting.  On the drive back home we made a quick tour through a nearby neighborhood that is known for its exceptional Christmas light displays and it did not disappoint.  Finally made it home around 10:30 and went straight to bed.

Monday 12/25 woke up around 7 AM and checked our stockings, unwrapped presents from our tree, then packed up and headed over to my inlaws for breakfast of spiral cut ham, egg casserole, croissant with homemade strawberry butter, and mimosas and bloody marys.  Then we did stockings and the tree at their house, lingered for a couple more drinks, then drove the ~2 miles over to my parents' house for lunch of BBQ turkey, cornbread dressing, green bean casserole, green chili creamed elotes, and my dad was feeling nostalgic for the 70s so he made a classic lime and pineapple jello mold.  My kids were wary at first, they've never seen such a thing, but ultimately I think they liked it.  After lunch we did stockings and the tree presents there, hung out for a while drinking mulled wine, then finally headed home, where we all proceeded to fall asleep on the couch watching Miracle on 34th Street and Holiday Inn.

Just woke up, sent the family to bed, but now I'm restless so I'm watching A Christmas Carol and typing to you folks.

Hope you all had a wonderful day and weekend as well.

That's the plan. A St Stephen's Day to remember, for sure!
