Memorable Seasons
« on: December 14, 2024, 02:41:34 PM »
For me, it probably varies a lot.  I recall the 1979 team that lost all its OOC games and nearly won the conference.  I recall the 1966 team that was quite good, the first one at UGA in ages.  I recall with some angst the teams that "almost won it" but didn't.
I recall the 1929 team that beat Yale, that was a good one.

I think I favor the 95 season mostly due to the several road trips associated with games that season, even if every game was pretty much a beat down.

Trips to Tempe, Boulder,  Lawrence, Lansing were quite memorable and fun.

It's a privilege to be able to choose the 1st option.  The 96 Gators are way up on a pedestal for me.  We actually won it!
From not winning the SEC for 50 years, then having probation take the first one away, then having prodigal son Spurrier to get us in the national conversation every year, Florida football hadn't DONE much of anything.  Every step near the top to eventually get to the top was difficult - from being preseason #1 in '94 to 12-0 and the NCCG in '95......to finally reach the top was really cathartic.
.
Before '91 (officially), the answer for Florida was a top-5 finish.  But really it was "remember that season the Gators were finally going to win the SEC, but got thumped by Georgia?"  Several times.  Our glass ceiling was red and black.
“The Swamp is where Gators live.  We feel comfortable there, but we hope our opponents feel tentative. A swamp is hot and sticky and can be dangerous." - Steve Spurrier
