That's why you said that football is a good corollary to war.

The QB is going to identify the MLB for the OL and the coverage:  man or zone (cover 1, 2, or 3).  
Any hand gestures are for the WRs.  If they know what they're doing, it's like baseball between the pitcher and catcher, and they'll have fake gestures and such.
