Maryland (1-0) at #23 Texas (0-1) Post Game
« on: September 02, 2017, 09:13:34 AM »
I've never done one of these on the B1G board, hope I did it right!

Not sure what to make of this game.  Both teams were pretty bad last year, but the press seems to believe that Tom Herman can take the (reasonably good) talent at Texas and do something with it.  So I guess we'll see.

I'm sure most of you will be pulling for the B1G team in this one, but I'm obviously hoping for a Texas win.

No predictions from me, I just don't know enough about either team.  This game, and then the Texas game @USC in a couple of weeks, should tell us quite a bit about how our season will go.

I'll be watching the game at my brother's so won't be checking in here during, but am certainly interested in any thoughts y'all might have.

Anyway, hope everyone enjoys Week1 of college football, and

HOOK 'EM HORNS!!!!

Oh, weather for this should be relatively mild, at least compared to what it could have been.  Hurrican Harvey dumped so much rain in the area that the ground water has kept the the temperatures down over the past week.

Normally this game would have seen a high around 100 with a heat index closer to 110, so the prediction of high in the low 90s and heat index maybe around 100 is actually better than it normally would be.

Maryland has some decent RBs and okay receivers, but a bad QB. The defense is nothing special despite Durkin's success as a DC. Their best win last year was against UCF in OT, and their only competitive losses were to Indiana and Boston College, so Texas should probably win by 10 or so if they've improved at all and probably by more than that.

first game for a new coach is always very interesting

most times means very little

I'd like to be watching this one, but I'll be on the golf course

With Pigrome at QB, we're a triple option team.

Yay.

We're not even a triple option team.

Ty Johnson picking up where he left off last year.

Not even 1st, 2nd, or 3rd team consideration in the B1G.

Lots of great backs in the B1G.

He'll get consideration this season with more touches. Tough to get all-any conference with only 1000 yards.

I know Texas is only ranked due to the hype on Herman, but Maryland is looking rather impressive. I admit they could definitely give Michigan a challenge with that game being in College Park.

So what's the story here?

1. Maryland = good.
2. Texas = more of a rebuild than expected.

Assuming Maryland and Indiana are two must wins for MSU to get bowl eligible...yikes.

Yeah, OSU gets Maryland at home, but it's the ultimate trap game right before @Nebraska and then Penn St. They better not be looking ahead.
I'm glad to have the Hoosiers outta the way.
