I've eaten in Chinese restaurants where we were the only nonAsians dining there. They had two menus, one for "us" and one for the Chinese/Asians. They had different selections. My only complaint was that the shrimp were shell on, pepper shrimp.
I'm not too crazy about chitin in my diet.
My Dad would only eat "American food", so that's all we had, until I got out of the house.
We're very lucky to have such a profusion of styles.
It's interesting though that American French restaurants are almost always on the expensive side. They needn't be, but are. We associate French "cuisine" (which means kitchen) with pricey food.
