There was some guy in Vegas once that butchered O Canada. He had clearly never heard the song before, and was just winging it. Hilarious.

That entire scene at Angels Stadium might be my favorite comedy scene ever

I recall when word circulated two gates down that woman was entering Kinnick Stadium 30-years ago. I didn't know who she was. I didn't watch "stupid TV." She married Tom Arnold from Iowa. He was only a bit better, not much.

I don't identify with Roseanne. I looked, but it is not worth looking at.

I saw it once back when it happened, no need to see it again

The national anthem fascinates me. It's this thing that folks take very seriously, but in American life is most commonly (maybe not almost exclusively, but close) experienced through sports.

It's also something people seem quick to take ownership over ("this song means this TO ME"), which in turn, in a fractured and rancorous world, makes it harder to be "ours." Which is really what you want and hope it to be. And that's a hard line to get to for a variety of reasons.

I also always liked the Mo Cheeks on, not because it was well sung, but because it was a nice moment and somewhat spontaneous.

I love the Star-Spangled Banner and the Pledge of Allegiance (minus 2 words jammed into it during the Red Scare in the 1950s).
I posted an image of a waving flag for my online students every single morning as the overhead announcements recited the pledge.
I'm sorry this doesn't mesh with the caricature of me here.

I love the Star Spangled Banner.  I love that it can stand for what you want it to.  It's open and perfect in that way.  It can stand for those who gave their lives, and those who continue to sacrifice them.  It can stand for a nation as a beacon of hope presently, and for what it can still be.

To me the Pledge of Allegiance has always been a little stomach churning.  Like if we saw a bunch of North Koreans or ISIS pledging blind devotion to an idol like that, it would be used as an argument against them.  I know Ann Arbor is liberal, but I never once said it before school started, even back in the 80s.  I was shocked when I got to college and discovered I was the only one

The only time I've been creeped out at a sports event was the pre-game PA announced prayer in Neyland Stadium.  W in T holy F is that?!?!?
