Iowa did not get a single vote in the preseason AP top 25 poll.  Iowa is officially on nobody's radar this year.

Good.  The less attention, the better.

I'm surprised that Stanley hasn't really separated himself further from the rest of the pack.  From the brief glimpses I saw of him last season, he certainly has some potential.

Of course, even the best QBs need targets besides RBs and TEs to throw to.

My guess is that Iowa's passing game is next to non-existent for much of September, but becomes at least serviceable during conference play.
Stanley named the starter

Adam RittenbergESPN Staff Writer

Iowa offensive tackle Ike Boettger will miss 4-6 months after  injuring the Achilles' tendon in his right leg in last week's game against Iowa State. Veteran Sean Welsh, who started Iowa's first two games at right guard and has 37 career starts, is expected to slide over to right tackle. Boettger's injury creates quite a lot of line shuffling for the Hawkeyes.

This was a good O-Line, but has been hurt by injuries this season. Boettger's loss will be felt, but if Boone Myers gets back to full-strength, and with James Daniels back at center, I think this will still be an excellent line, in time, provided there are no other injuries. One more injury and they will start to struggle.

There's a chance the NCAA may grant Boettger a medical grayshirt and give him one more season of eligibility, but after what happened with Drew Ott a couple of years ago, it's not very likely.  He might not even appeal based on the previous decision.

Drew Ott's case was very questionable if you look at the terms of the medical red shirt rule.
Boettger's case for a red shirt is very clear, provided he does not somehow try to come back and play this season. You can play in no more three games or no more than 30% of the maximum number of games for the season (whichever is greater), and not after the halfway point of the season. Problem with Ott's case is that he played parts of six games.

He injured his elbow against Iowa State. He played in the North Texas game, when he should probably should have sat, as they didn't need him in that game. But then Iowa didn't know he would tear his ACL in Game 6, and Drew Ott wanted to play.

Ed Cunningham made a point about Iowa playing Beathard in a bowl game when he appeared injured, and not very mobile. Iowa played Drew Ott after he dislocated an elbow, and wasn't nearly full strength in the North Texas game. Iowa played Rudock a few years ago in a bowl game when he was getting hammered and his mobility was impaired. Iowa isn't the only one. Ohio State played Braxton Miller when he was injured in a bowl game, and it appeared to no good end, and the following season he was unable to play QB after he was hammered repeatedly in their bowl game. They wouldn't take him out, even though they had a competent 2nd string senior QB. I don't know if Miller's injuries in the bowl game sidelined him for the next year, or not.

Who else is up for grading Iowa's first half of the season a B?

The 0-2 conference start had to disappoint, but it turns out those two losses are against the BIG 10's best looking team and a much better than expected Michigan State team. The Hawkeyes took care of the typical FCS bear traps and the rivalry win over Iowa State looks a lot better today. And they turned on the burners in the second half yesterday. Vs lowly Illinois Kinnick looked/sounded lively on TV.

All in all looks like Iowa is gearing way for another Vs SEC bowl. Iowa Vs Kentucky in the Music City Bowl rings nicely. I know 8-5 is purgatory under Ferentz, but man, how many programs out there might be willing to bankrupt their athletic departments for 8 wins/yr? Illinois, Purdue, Indiana, Cal, UVA, Syracuse, Kansas, Wake? Not to mention my school in Tucson?

I would give it a C+

Iowa will still not be ranked this week.

While 4-2 isn't the end of the world, I'd give them a straight C at this point.

Worse than expected:
O-Line. Yes, the expected line-up didn't start a single game together, but this line looks very average. Bright spot has been RS FR Jackson at LT. He's solid.

D-Line. Our DC was gushing over this line in the pre-season, and there is depth there to rotate, but there is also zero pass rush and they're not exactly formidable against the run.

Secondary. This one wasn't expected to be an area of strength, but nobody back there has excelled.

Question marks that proved to be true concerns:
QB. Efficient at times, makes mostly good short-to-intermediate passes. No touch on deep ball, has missed no less than 7 TD bombs in 6 games. Only 2 picks on the year, but fumbled 5(?) times.

Punter. We didn't know what to expect, and my god, it's been bad.

Better than expected:
Kicker.

WR? They're an upgrade over previous years, but still not striking a lot of fear in opposing secondaries.

About as expected:
TE. Good, not great.
