OTHER NOTES
2007
  • Timing rules implemented in 2006 were removed
  • North Texas and Navy set the record for points in a quarter and in a regulation game, on November 10, scoring 63 2nd quarter points, giving North Texas a 49-45 halftime lead, before losing 74-62
  • There were 59 times where a ranked team lost to a lower ranked team, including a record 13 upsets of top 5 teams by unranked teams, the first upset of a ranked team by an FCS team (Appalachian State over Michigan), the #2 team losing on 7 of 9 consecutive weeks (6 of the 7 to unranked teams), and the top 2 teams losing on the same weekend three different times, after not happening at all in over a decade
  • Colt Brennan set the FBS record for passing TDs and total TDs
  • Only 2nd time in BCS era that there was no undefeated team, with Kansas being the only 1 loss BCS conference team, and LSU being the first 2 loss team to be recognized by the AP or Coaches as a national champ since 1960 Minnesota (with 1990 Colorado at 10-1-1 being the most recent team with two non-wins)
  • Sonny Lubick and Lloyd Carr retired after the season
2009
  • First time in Heisman history that two prior winners both played in a season (Sam Bradford and Tim Tebow)
  • Minnesota moved back outside, with the opening of TCF Bank Stadium
  • First time since 1983 there were no co-conference champions
  • Western Michigan's Brandon West set the FBS record for all-purpose yards, and Central Michigan's Dan LeFevour set the record for all purpose touchdowns
  • Bobby Bowden and Rich Brooks retired, Pete Carroll left for the NFL.  Urban Meyer temporarily retired
