Being a longtime season ticket holder comes with high's and low's, nearly all lows the last decade, rewarded with lots of crazy, unexpected up's and down's this year, but ending with a Bucket game I am very excited for this weekend, where winner goes bowling and loser goes home. I haven't confirmed it, but best I can tell this is the first time ever for this scenario.
Most all times they've faced each other 1 squad super-sucked so it was only playing for pride or as spoiler. The last time both technically had something on the line was 2007 when IU had to win to guarantee a bowl in the "Play for 13" year in Terry Hoeppner's honor. Purdue was bowling no matter what and IU would have likely sneaked into a bowl anyway at 6-6, so not close to whats on the line here. in 2012, Purdue's last bowl team, in Danny Hope's last game, we were 5-6, but I believe IU was 4-6, so again, both teams weren't fully in it.
If anybody is coming, my tailgate group is hosting it's 14th annual Spicy Chili Cook Off, comes complete with Publisher's Clearinghouse style checks on posterboard and cash prizes for the first 3 places, winner I think gets $80. I've won it 5 times or so, but I also take chances as it'd be boring to make the old chili every year and once got Miss Congeniality (feels like that was finishing last out of 11.) The judges are implored to include some funny and demeaning comments, so that makes for a lot of fun when results are announced. If you have any interest in partaking, let me know and I'll send you the info.
