Some people think government solves problems, and at times, they do.

The core issue remains though, Hauser's "Law".  Raising rates doesn't mean more revenue, broadly speaking.  It's pretty obvious, and probably wrong, to think otherwise, "we should tax more to get more money for widows and orphans etc."

This is a VERY common belief not supported by decades of experience.

does lowering rates mean less revenue?

If not, we should lower rates a bunch!

We do these studies on happiness and well-being compared to income levels...then we ignore it.  Take those numbers and double or triple them, or even multiply them by 10, and then any monies beyond that are used for the social good.

I know it's pie-in-the-sky thinking, but it's better than saying additional monies coming in doens't increase revenue or oh it's not enough money to bother bringing in.

We need to change the system if the system is broken.  A paradigm shift.  Shrugging and suggesting there's nothing to be done isn't useful.

There is a "Laffer Curve", which suggests that at some midpoint in marginal  income tax rates, revenue is optimized, and going very far from that point in either direction obviously reduced rates, but it's not clear where the optimum exists.  And the "curve" has a fairly flat top, apparently (Hauser's Law).  Government changes the rates by a small amount and makes a big deal about it, but the revenue (%GDP) stays constant, within certain bounds.

We once had top marginal rates of 90% and the revenue as %GDP was the same as it is today.

Saying higher rates don't increase revenue is a simple fact.  You can claim otherwise, but history shows you'd be wrong.

There is a simple reason this is true.

Yep, and there's no actual answer to the optimal rate, so...

It's weird that the US is so star-spangled awesome, that a few additional percentage points of taxes would drive all the successful people out.

Utopia is across the Atlantic. One can always move there, if they let you in.

The longer it goes, the more and more skeptical I am of there being much there there with Epstein.

A suicide makes plenty of sense. No one has been able to pin anything grotesque on their opponents. Everyone talks big and when they get access, they sheepishly work around there not being much there.
this strikes me as the musings of someone who knows very little about the topic at hand.

Jeffrey Epstein was full-stop, 1000% an intelligence access asset- I would bet mine and every person on this boards life on it. His connections and background all point to Mossad and the fact that he was given an absolutely fucking insane completely unheard of in history NPA deal in 2008 by Alex Acosta at DOJ- which Acosta later said on record he only gave said deal because he was told Epstein and I quote "belonged to intelligence" suggests CIA was in on the jig. All of Acosta's incoming emails at DOJ in the 11 month window he was handling the Epstein case by the way miraculously disappeared and are poof....gone forever....lol. What a coincidence! Just like the guards falling asleep and the cameras having issues in the most secure prison in NYC...lol. Damn.

Never mind the actual details of the suicide are sketchy. Dr. Michael Baden a world renowned forensic pathologist- who has reviewed over a thousand jail hanging suicide cases in NYC prisons over the last 50 years says he has never found a single case in which there were 3 fractures in a victims neck- two to thyroid cartilage and one to the hyoid bone. Baden says hyoid bone fracture is more consistent with strangulation- and to have one fracture is rare but can occur in hanging, to have two is extremely rare, and to have three is beyond rare are basically impossible/unheard of. Not to mention the ligature mark from the supposed noose was at the base of the neck- not near the top of the neck angled up into the jaw. Not to mention there was no blood found on the supposed noose but there was blood on the neck. Baden concluded all of this adds up to a strangulation, not hanging. But hey, what would he know? He's just one of the most famous forensic pathologists in the world- and all of these coincidences surrounding Jeffrey Epstein are just that, right- coincidences.

Newsflash: there was never going to be anything grotesque to pin on one side or one opponent, because the operation infiltrated both sides of the aisle and implicates the very most powerful and elite people in US society. Much of the evidence had already been destroyed and this thing is being cleaned up and swept under the rug to not only protect the powerful implicated but more importantly to protect the institutions aka intelligence agencies and to protect US special relationship with it's supposed-to-be-vassal but in reality it's master, Israel.

Add all of this up and throw in Trump's connections to Epstein (the guy is on audio tape saying he and Donald used to be best friends for nearly a decade and Trump is on his flight logs at least 7 times) - none of this shit was ever going to see the light of day. This is what you would call, a cover up.
