I'd like to understand any link between funding cuts and flood deaths in Texas.

Easy - there isn’t any.

Zero cause.

This NOAA organization houses the NWS, which sent as many emergency notices as possible.

The fat has been trimmed - none of the NWS staff were removed.

Anonymity.  Hiding behind a computer screen.

I have avoided social events in this building because fairly often someone present will feel a need to "weigh in".
Lots of people on FB and other sites using their real name.

True, but it's still more of an arm's length interaction, rather than personal face to face, which I think probably emboldens some people.

I've unfollowed or unfriended everyone on Facebook that chooses to post political shit.  Except my parents.  I just ignore the 1/2 of their stuff that's political.

When an event is so extreme, it's the tip of the bell curve-rare, people still feel the need to blame someone for it.

Funny, no one is blaming god.  Weird.

A parent who lost a kid might well blame God.  I'm reading there was ample warning broadcast, the issue is it was initially ignored and then the water rose much faster  than anyone would have guessed.  I can see folks thinking they are well above any flood level, and then it happens once in a century, like Helene.

I know a lot of those towns pretty well that Helene flooded, it was ... incredible.  You live in a place (or in my case pass through) for decades and can't believe that "river" could get that high ever.

Well, warnings occur for a reason.  That's on them (the adults who sat on their hands).  That's a lot of dead children to be the cause of.

Yes, it is entirely on the adults who were responsible for the care of the kids at their camp.   Is someone disputing this?  I'm unsure of your point.

yes, but I wouldn't string up those adults, they had no idea.

yes , they should have acted quicker and been more cautious, but as you say, it was a 100 year event if not more.

no adult expected this

That's the problem.

Adults are better when they hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

County leadership f'd this one up. The NWS did its job.

SLUBICE, Poland (AP) — Poland reinstated border controls on Monday with Germany and Lithuania following similar German restrictions imposed earlier this year aimed at discouraging asylum-seekers.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, whose government recently survived a confidence vote in parliament, announced the restrictions last week. Pressure has been mounting after far-right groups in Poland have alleged Germany was transporting migrants into Polish territory after they reached Western Europe.

The reinstated controls, which began overnight Sunday, will last for an initial period of 30 days, though authorities have not ruled out extending them, according to the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration.

“Illegal migration is simply a crime,” Polish Interior Minister Tomasz Siemoniak said Sunday during a news conference.

The buildings of Camp Mystic are ALL within mapped floodplain - and in many cases even withing the mapped FLOODWAY (dangerous).

The camp should not have existed at all.
