I still encourage everyone to follow Unusual Whales on X and BlueSky.  They cover the news at large, but their main purpose is tracking all of the sketchy investments of our elected officials, on both sides, and they dive deep

Sad how every time we defund things recklessly, from the police to the NOAA, people die. 

Almost like we shouldnt just blindly vote to defund.  But that doesnt fit on a bumper sticker

I don't know about the horrible discourse online, but the NWS made an appropriate warning with enough time for everyone to respond.  For a multitude of reasons, the local camps and campgrounds most severely affected, either didn't hear it, or didn't heed it, in time.

It's absolutely a tragedy but the NWS appropriately evaluated the risks and broadcast them, the failure was in the reception and subsequent action, or inaction, after that.
