agreed, why not concentrate on the important questions instead of the population number that doesn't matter even a little bit?
the population number actually matters a fucking lot. think about it for a minute.

said population is very young with more males of military age than western countries with similar populations.

ok I take it back....this is the dumbest shit I've read on here so far. my man, this is just sooooo dumb I don't even know where to begin and I'm shocked because you're a really smart guy.
I'm talking about the current conflict. I'm well aware that the overall conflict over there goes back 100+ years with the "creation" of Israel by the Brits.

what if the number was 30 million or 130 million?  Would that change the way Netanyahu or Trump or Cruz or most folks think about the situation?

Imagine if Israel were suddenly removed. We’d get to watch the Palestinians kill each other, establish a repressive ethnostate and then get put in a blender by one of their neighbors.

If Netanyahu can't put together post-Hamas governance in the Gaza Strip, which he has been either unable or unwilling to do, how the hell is he going to do that in Iran?

And we haven't even mentioned the terrain yet.

Need I remind you that Tehran is in the far north.

Israel doesn't have the bodies needed for that, and on top of it they don't have the means to get bodies to Iran, let alone through Iran.

So, they will lob bombs at each other until they run out.

I do not want the US in this. I'm pissed that it's even being hinted at.

a repressive ethnostate killing all of it's neighbors is a perfect description of Israel.

hey I got an idea for another option, pull the fuck out completely of the area. not our problem, not our concern. we gain nothing at all being there.

I've been talking about the terrain non-stop. if people thought Iraq was disastrous for the US.....Iran would be like that on steroids. Over 3x the population of Iraq (at the time we invaded Iraq in 2003) and WAY more difficult terrain. Yeah, nah thanks.

Forgive me, but what would that question even mean?

Israel wouldn’t have the manpower to do a real invasion, little alone, trying to hold any of it. Plus the countries in between them make that kind of ground war probably impossible on both sides.

Missiles will be shot. Then things will settle. The only way there’s a change in government there is internal or a large neighboring nation (or large ally of a neighboring nation) invaded and destabilizes it. And it seems like the candidates for that are pretty short.

You're right, it is.

Tucker Carlson is a self-important bloviating blowhard as well.  He's just not as dumb as Ted Cruz.  It's a very low bar.

I won't pretend to know a ton about Ted Cruz, but I know Tucker relatively well since he left FOX.  This is the guy who went to Russia and said Putin really ain't so bad and Russia seems like a great place to live.  This is the guy who interviewed Andrew Tate who bald-faced lied about his sex-trafficking charges being a decade old, easily checkable, and Tucker had no clue and didn't push back at all.  This is the same guy who had on Daryl Cooper, the world's scammiest "historian" and ate up every stupid, verifiably false thing this guy said about WWII.  This is the same guy who.....never mind, I can't.

Tucker may have been something at FOX when he had a massive staff to do research for him and keep him from showing his ignorance--I don't know, I never really watch cable news.  But I've loosely followed him since he started his podcast, and DAMN is he ignorant about philosophy, history, religion, and bad at logic and consistency.  He makes me facepalm every time he tries to get in those conversations, and unfortunately they really play into other areas he gets into (and probably does know something about, certainly more than me about some things).

I can't take him seriously at this point.  He may be right every now and then in the sense that a stopped clock is right twice a day.

US is already in this. the $64,000 question is how deeply in this will the US become. Trump has to resist the neo-con/Israel first faction of his administration with every fiber of his being.....and so far kinda looks like they are winning.

I feel like you must've missed how anti-Iran-even-getting-a-whiff-of-nuclear Trump has always been.  I watched a nearly 15 minute compilation a guy put together of Trump from the last 15ish years, never wavering from the same line, "We can't allow Iran to have a nuclear program."  He said it before he ever ran for president.  He said it in the 2015 speech when he first announced.  He said it during his first term, during his non-term, and he's still saying it.

Feel free to disagree with the view, but if you somehow think he suddenly got influenced to think something he didn't already, you haven't been paying attention.  His language so far has been perfectly consistent with everything he's said for the past decade and a half.

I generally agree, but it's not that simple.

Iran funds terrorism. I wouldn't mind a regime change at all. I just don't want the US involved in it.
If we absolutely insist on regime change then I'll just say something that my brother pointed out several years into the Iraq fiasco:

My brother pointed out that we only lost a few hundred troops toppling Saddam (it might not even have been that many) and that we had lost MANY times that number during the subsequent occupation.  So he said:  If we don't like the leader, why don't we just go, remove the leader, and leave.  If the replacement is the same or worse, we go back, take that guy out, and leave again.  Based on what happened in Iraq that would cause a LOT less casualties than trying to build them into a functioning democracy.
