China sneaking spyware into electronic devices....which is exactly what the US does as well. They spy on us something horrific, and we spy on them too. We spy on everyone.
No "We" don't insert undocumented and unknown and illegal spy devices into our tech equipment that is then sold to China for three reasons.
1) US companies are private rather than nationalized agencies, I work for one of the largest and no, we're not sneaking spy tech into the things we sell overseas
2) China doesn't buy much of our stuff anyway, there's really no avenue for this to happen
3) Much of our tech is manufactured in China in the first place, so again, no, we are not inserting any spy tech into the manufacturing lines located within... China.
If you're talking about spy satellites and whatnot, fine, but that's not what anyone else is talking about.
Chinese technology companies, like all other companies there, are effectively nationalized state agencies and they are under the direction of the CCP's military and espionage branches. They can, do, and are, inserting undocumented spy tech into numerous devices that they sell overseas, including to the USA. They've been doing this for decades. As an aside, I'd suggest never buying Lenovo computers and bringing them into your home.
The second part is more insidious and even worse-- they're inserting undocumented, unknown, and illegal wireless receivers into infrastructure components like solar batteries and solar panels, microcontrollers, and all sorts of other tech that we use for critical infrastructure. The intent is to access remotely and then compromise and gain access to the power grid, water systems, sewer systems, and any other critical infrastructure components they can interfere with. This is absolutely just another overt act of war, in a long line of overt acts of war.
On the final part of your post, I'm sure you know I agree 100% on the risks we've undertaken, allowing so much of our critical technology and medical manufacturing to be offshored. The good news is, some of that is starting to come back.
