Happy Mother's Day, Fro!
My mom died when I was 20.

In what context is living below the poverty line cool with you?
I find that a non-trivial amount of people living below the poverty line do so because of their own decisions.

But the point I was trying to make is that the article didn’t state whether the paycheck went to a 16 year old kid living with their parents or who it went to. And, the paycheck was actually an older one.  A lot of McD’s pay way more than minimum wage, with some stores paying $20 per hr.

Many of the cuts are contract cancellations, staff cuts or asset sales.  Nothing about that is a scam. Might not add up to much given the INCREDIBLE AMOUNT OF FRAUD AND WASTE.  But it is real.
I used the word "scam" to mean something that was WAY oversold.  It may have some benefit, or reality, but what was promised (and still being promised) is WAY short of reality.

I was part of a discussion on FB about Jon Ossoff, Senator from Georgia.  Someone claimed he was doing fantastic things for Georgians, and I asked for a specific example.  The response was "He helped out veterans".  OK, I guess, not very specific.

A bunch of folks were singing his praises without any clue who his opponent might be, which is fine, they won't like whoever runs against him.

But when asked for ONE specific example, and none is forthcoming, well .... one person of course responded saying "Do your own work!!!".

tell em you think folks should be required to provide one example to be allowed to vote.

It's been less than 4 months.

I don't get why people are upset with looking into Government waste.

I'm happy about USAID being gutted.

Still think it’s ridiculous that our government wastes so much money on leases.  Should make the bloodsucker civil servants pay for their own office!

(Definitely a sincere thought, and not someone still adjusting to going into the office everyday.)

Looking into waste is fine.  Promising $2 triilion in savings, and then $1 trillion, and then "maybe" $150 billion, and that being dubious, to me is over promising and under delivering.

And a lot of these savings are monies appropriated by Congress and legally have to be spent.

Then I look at the "Trump budget" and see MORE spending proposed for next fiscal and think "What were all these cuts worth?"

Nobody is going to cut spending overall, to claim it is fatuous bilious nonsense of the worst kind, to me.

I do quite a bit of work for the GSA, through an architect client of mine. You would not believe the waste in that agency. It owns way too much property. It's unreal.

The company I worked for had profligate silly waste and poor decisions.  I think it's inherent any time something gets large, and government of course is massively larger than any company.

Cutting waste is however challenging, I think.  republicans promise to cut spending, but don't, then democrats promise to raise taxes, and don't.

I assume the rationale it is “cheaper” to get longer leases and hope to one day put them to use.. but I’ve gone through consolidations in Phoenix and Arlington, so it probably is most likely poor planning.

Planning? Heh. Like that ever happens. Certainly not in my experience. The only "planning" I see is "we have to spend this money, or we lose it".
