That is a more damning indictment of the American electorate than anything. They fell for the con man. Twice.
It isn't a damning indictment of the American electorate, it is a damning indictment of the system.

For literally decades BOTH parties conspired against the American People on the immigration issue.  The American People STRONGLY support border control and AT LEAST some screening and AT LEAST some limits on immigration.  The donors to BOTH parties just want more bodies.

At the beginning of the 2016 election there were something like 21 candidates (IIRC) with 16 R's and 4 D's.  The exact number isn't important, the point is that all but one were in bed with the donors against the American People.  The ONE exception won the election.

Trump ended up building almost zero wall and generally not living up to his promises but he DID at least restrict illegal immigration as the American People wanted, not enough to get himself reelected.

What did the system do?
The system kicked, screamed, dragged it's feet, and generally opposed every effort to actually enforce the law then nominated a dementia patient and coalesced around their empty suit placeholder for the system and pulled off a win with a LOT of help from (among other things):
  • The Wuhan Flu
  • The entire legacy media
  • The Rx company that had a successful vaccine trial BEFORE the 2020 election but buried the news
  • Absentee voting
So they managed to elect their empty suit placeholder.

Then four years later they comically renominated the dementia patient but this time it was a bridge too far.  When he showed up for the debate it became obvious to the entire world the he needed to be in a home not the White House so they pushed him out and replaced him with a candidate who won literally zero delegates in the Democratic primaries in 2020.  That isn't an ideological issue, it was a DEMOCRATIC Primary among Democratic voters.  It was simply a likability issue.  She was an atrocious candidate.

So the voters were presented with a choice between the incredibly unlikable Kamala whose major activity in the preceding four years had been to be placed in charge of the border by the dementia patient and preside over the largest increase in immivasion in American history or a guy who at least said he was on the side of the American people.

Trump isn't the disease he is a symptom.  If we had two parties (or for that matter even one) that were actually working on behalf of the American People Trump would have been easily defeated.  We don't and he wasn't.

As part of his deal to become North Carolina's new football coach, Belichick is already giving himself a pass from recruiting; he doesn't want to deal with it.

He plans to run the program as an NFL developmental program, similar to what Arizona State declared when hiring Herm Edwards. The difference being Belichick has the organization and attention to detail to see his vision through, unlike Herm Edwards and AD Ray Anderson whose bungled management put ASU under NCAA sanctions.

Most everybody is surprised, thinking Belichick was only asserting his name into UNC's coaching search to send a message that he's serious about getting back into coaching. Most surprised are the arrogant NFL media experts like Florio and Schlereth - the same crowd who back in 2015 expended hours of airtime baffled over why Jim Harbaugh would ever choose to coach college over their beloved NFL. This morning all the NFL shows are leading with Belichick to UNC coverage.

Calling it now - Bill Belichick's tenure at UNC will be a runaway disaster. There isn't anything serious about how he's handling himself as UNC's new coach:

"Bill Belichick and his 24-year-old girlfriend showed rapper Lil Wayne the ropes in Chapel Hill over the weekend, where the trio posed for a photo and spent time together at an indoor UNC practice facility."

"Captioning her Instagram post, “I didn’t realize this was a bucket list item until I did,” Hudson stood beside the 42-year-old rapper and the Tar Heels’ new football coach, 72."

President had a social media post that seemed to say (though some pretty imprecise use of language) that he wants an even or favorable balance of trade with every country.

Even if I don’t think it will go well, the celebrity stuff does usually sell with the recruits. At least for a cycle or two.

On its face that's a pretty silly desire and an unlikely outcome, but given Trump's historical MO of pushing for 100% of something he says he wants, and then bargaining back down to whatever a more likely and realistic goal would be, I think it's reasonable to believe that he doesn't actually believe in, or even want, an even trade balance with every country.  What he really seems to want, is something more favorable and less disadvantageous to the USA, than what currently exists.

Is this the way to get it?  I guess we'll see.

Browsed through a CNBC article this morning and this is a telling paragraph, to me.  It indicates what many of us have speculated, that the target isn't other nations' tariffs, rather it's other nations' entire slate of anti-competitive behaviors that are directly harmful to US industry.

Quote
"While the administration said at least 50 nations had reached out to start negotiations, Canada and the European Union were planning to follow China’s lead and readying retaliatory tariffs against the U.S. Vietnam has offered already to cut tariffs on the U.S. to zero, according to Trump, but trade advisor Peter Navarro told CNBC on Monday that wasn’t enough and that “it’s the non-tariff cheating that matters.” This suggests negotiations could be drawn out longer than Wall Street would like."

I've been against the tariffs and stated so many times here.  Though I've caveated that by saying I'm not a tariff expert and I'm deferring to basically two guys I'm familiar with whose opinions should count for a lot more than mine (well.....one of them is dead, and I suppose his current opinion is unknown, and doesn't count).

That said, it's what we're getting, and I hope for the best.

As for everything else I missed here over the weekend......too much goofy to respond to, other than to say I'm now convinced TDS is an actual thing and should be included in the DSM-6 whenever it comes out.  The idea that our right-leaning people here on this board are Trump shills who never criticize him and see no wrongs and would think different about everything now if it were being done by the previous administration is idiotic to the point that I don't care to say much more about it.

You would know better than I, but it seems like China and the EU would be much better positioned to start retaliating than Canada.  My impression is that Canada would feel noticeable pain, quickly, in this situation.

That's why the messaging confuses me so much.  He churned out all of those executive orders, but they were mostly a lot of nothing that his base ate up, the people who will hate him no matter what will hate, and most people knew were a bunch of nothing.

The fact that it took time for these to come out told me the people around him knew that this was the type of thing that people that fell in that middle group, and who actually understand things, would critique.  Then he rolls out a list of uninhabited islands, with math that was quickly proven laughably bad, and they say nothing of the stuff above, which I think people could actually get behind.  And then he takes off to go golfing.  You literally could not have scripted a worse roll out.  He might as well just signed it on day 1, and I don't think it could have been more haphazard.

Humorous.  His executive orders were so “ nothing” that the Dems went and tapped all of their appointed activist liberal judges and filed an injunction against all of them.

That is their entire platform really. Make sure borders stay open, make sure to fight deportation of illegal aliens, make sure to keep biological men in womens sports, and oppose anything the President does.  And they can’t figure out why their party is experiencing historically low support.
