I would say that the space program and all that entails is one of the major factors why the USA has been at the cutting edge of technology and development for the last 50+ years.

The part where they were walking on the moon itself may not have brought about all that much in the way of advancement, but the rocket technology, the communication, life support, and everything else was definitely a "giant leap".

Apple builds the Mac Pro here in Austin and a few years back expanded their manufacturing capability here.  It's a drop in the bucket compared to iphone sales and production, but it's something, anyway.

If only the highest IQs came with an ethics component.

That's what I've said about the Democrats for years who apparently constitute a higher-education segment of society and tell me they're enlightened.

If you have a good business, you don't need government handouts, but hes just another welfare bitch.  He's taking pictures with a chainsaw, to compensate for,.well we all know.

I will say it's nice for all the small dick people to finally have their King.  He has a bunch of kids that he ignores, and he's contingent on government handouts, he is a welfare b****

Have to say, after posting with you for nearly 20 years, I did not see this one coming.

One thing folks claim the space program accelerated was development of the integrated chip.  That had been around since the early 1960s (Kilby) but without much application until NASA needed substantial computers that were small and relatively light weight.

The instruments used to explore "outside the universe" (I presume this means outside the solar system, or galaxy) are more basic science oriented.

Not the billionaires so much as the sweeping generalization categorically name-calling anyone who likes/admires/agrees with Musk.

Seems unbecoming of the guy who posted the remarks.  I understand that MDot is abrasive and does this kind of stuff routinely, but I don't really expect it from AAA.

And I'll also point out that to date, I'm the only one who ever really calls out MDot for his unhinged bigoted and nonsensical tirades when he starts doing that shit.

Let's talk about the hundreds of billions in subsidies the US gov't has given the oil industry over the years. Or how about the US federal gov't giving pharmaceutical criminal drug cartels liability shield and immunity for vaccine products - and then forcing people to take said experimental vaccines effectively giving a $100 billion profit handout to Pfizer and a couple of the other big druggies a few years back. ONE HUNDRED BILLION IN PROFIT. Lulz.
Who made $100 billion in profit over this?  Pfizer's stock price is lower than it was preCOVID and their annual revenue is around $63 billion, not profit.  Moderna did relatively well initially, but their stock price also dropped, and their net SALES are a bit over $3 billion, with negative profits.

Nobody earned anything like the number you cite.

The Pentagon got audited, I read somewhere.  Sort of.

Folks want to audit the Fed which amuses me a lot.  The Fed can make money from nothing, and do, often.  How can they be audited?  "Oh, are we short a trillion in that account?  Here it is."

Whoosh.
audits at the Pentagon have been tried before- but they've actually never passed one. famously Bush II's Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld said on video in a speech he gave the day before 9/11 that the Pentagon cannot track $2.3 trillion in transactions. that was 24 years ago, still haven't passed an audit.

One of the really weird things about the Fed is that it's not actually a government agency nor part of the government and it's reserve banks are owned by it's member banks. It's like kind of a corporation owned by member banks but also kind of a government agency- but not a government agency. It's just fucking....weird. Perhaps even shady? And that last part this isn't totally accurate. Of course you can audit the fed to see what assets and liabilities it currently holds on it's balance sheet...and it gets audited in that way as is. I believe that the push from people like Rand Paul (his father famously wrote a book called End the Fed) to audit it is to get even more transparency and oversight from A to Z at the Fed.

He's kept trying to introduce an Audit The Fed bill which anyone can read here: https://www.paul.senate.gov/dr-rand-paul-reintroduces-audit-the-fed/

Not a single Presidential appointee ever was voted on by the voters, it's a silly argument.  Some are of course confirmed by the Senate.  The idea that Mush was not elected is just ignorant.  Of course he wasn't.
100%. You'd think people bitching about this would already know this, but I guess they don't. Now people are bitching mean Orange man fired people in the military. I guess they didn't get the memo we have civilian control of the military in this country and the President of the United States is the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the US military.....

One thing about Musk/Space X that didn't get brought up is that they are actually saving the government billions of dollars.  Before Space X, NASA was paying 200-300 million for every single launch.  Space shuttle cost anywhere from 500 million to over 1 billion per launch (hard to nail down a number but it wasn't cheap).  Space X is launching more for NASA than all the other companies combined and for less money.  The government is the one asking for services.  Boeing got $4 billion to launch astronauts to the space station and hasn't had a successful mission yet.  SX has launched multiple flights to the ISS for less than half of what Boeing got.

Whatever you think of Musk and his businesses, they deliver.

I'm still quite dubious as to the actual size of his spending cuts.  Congress controls the purse, you really can't cut billions in spending authorized by Congress.  You can spend it more efficiently and with less waste of course.  A President lacks the authority to impound major spending.
100%. The sad fact is that neither side the R's or D's- have done fuck all in Congress to curtail spending and to root out waste, fraud, and abuse. Congress has abdicated it's power and authority for decades and has just handed more and more of it's own powers to executive branch over the years. just look at the war machine.....executive was never intended to have these kind of powers as it relates to war. Constitution is clear as day- Congress has sole power to declare war- there can be no war without Congress making a declaration of war- yet we fight 'em constantly with no such declaration. Congress are by and large sad sack of useless shits.
