Good.  I didn't wanna say it, but since you did, I'd have dumped that GP too.

I relayed that scenario to Mrs. DeTiger* and she was flabbergasted.  Like, you don't go that long without checking a patient's thyroid.  And you don't even wait for annuals if the patient has those symptoms.

Endo often doesn't even get involved with hypothyroid cases, unless a PCP just doesn't want to manage it.  Diabetes too.  Most of those are simple enough that Endo would rather PCP's handle it.  They have way more complicated crap to be dealing with.  The more PCP's put that off on Endo, the longer the wait times for Endo.  That applies to all specialists, not just Endo.  That said, specialists exist for a reason and there's a ton of stuff you certainly wouldn't want a PCP to be managing.  They can be negligent in the other direction, and I've seen that as well.  I know of PCP's in our area who take on stuff they absolutely should not, and they do it because of greed, but they ought to be referring to specialists.

The moral of the story for everyone here is, do your annual checkups and if they don't have you do labs for them, insist on it.  I know us guys hate all that crap but the old saying really applies, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.  CMP or at least a BMP, thyroid and lipid panel, CBC.....ask your doctor about all that and make sure they're doing it as often as is appropriate for your age.

I moved it. Originally Fearless posted the thing about measles in the apolitical thread, and I had a feeling that it would be very difficult to survive over there without getting political.

It was moved before Mdot replied, so no, he didn't post politically in the apolitical thread.
Well you're more honest than the polititians, hoping no one would notice then point at the opposition for distressing confusion - you get a Yuengling

Drew and Badger have both made me a mod before.

I rebelled, cuz they can't turn me into The Man.

Just as well.  They'd have had to ultimately take me down due to corruption.  For a few good pics per day in the Hotties thread, I'd let about anything slide.
So political aspirations.....

....because I'm not done bitching about it yet......

Here I am, three days out from requesting IT install a harmless, universally used piece of software on my laptop.  They just finally came by and asked do I have an Adobe License.  I'm like no, the university has the license, they can't expect me to do that.  Yes, they say, but is their license affiliated with your university account?  No, isn't that something y'all would handle before installing software?  Correct, they say....they'll go do that right now and be back at some point in the future once the license is taken care of.

ffs.  If you don't believe government work is inefficient, I'm telling you it is.

Meantime, I'm trying to transfer an assessment standard rubric into a new system, and because of formatting issues and a lack of software that allows me to get around that to copy and paste, I'm working my way through typing 134 pages.  I'm a fast typist, but there are so many codes named things like "19 TAC §228.57(c)(3) / TEC §21.044(c-1)" that have to be exactly right, and all the compliance language that goes with it which must be exact and without error, with a lot of formatting, so it's actually really slow going.  Instead of actually building the workflow on the new system, I'm spending days inputting the wording.

It might be a two-coffee kind of morning.

The articles say Texas HHS says it’s concentrated in a Mennonite community. Perhaps they’re undocumented.
Texas is a big place, with a lot of people.  That said, I wasn't aware that we had much of a Mennote community or Amish.  Maybe we do.

I think the measles vaccine came out before my time, because I don't really remember anybody having it in the late 70's/80's.  I do remember older cousins and relatives talking about it being a thing, but it doesn't seem like it was that bad.  Kinda like Chicken pox was for us in the 80's.  You'd get it, usually in elementary school, and it would be itchy and stuff for a week, and then you were good.

Just thought I'd point out that you can transfer PDF in and out of Microsoft Word and other programs.

My employer offers a $700 discount on your annual health insurance premiums if you get your lab work done.  It's the basic panels I mentioned above, but the employer pays for it, they have an account at all of the local labs, and then the results get stored with a healthcare partner and you can schedule follow-ups through that, or use your own.

I have my annual physical set in March, which is 6 months out from when I always do my employer insurance lab work, so I'm having lab work done twice per year.

I assume all the rest of you are getting it done at least 1x per year but if not, you should be.

For a fee, company paid for as well -- I assume.

My company has to renew mine every year so that I can import/export PDF's to Excel.

Vaccine came out in the 1960's. I got it at age 1. Measels, mumps, rubella.

Never had chicken pox.

Yeah, I just haven't been able to avoid the formatting problems that way.  After trying a few things I decided to just plow through it the old-fashioned way.  Work harder, not smarter.

With occasional breaks to come here when my eyes glaze over, of course :)

Never had chicken pox.

I barely remember it, but doesn't seem like the chicken pox was too bad.  The resulting shingles I got 10 years ago on account of having had chicken pox tho.....yikes.  I'm too young for the shingles vaccine.  I'm likely to get it again at least once in my life.  Not looking forward to it.

MMR has been standard for 3 generations now.

Chicken pox vaccine is relatively new, we didn't have it as kids.  Our pediatrician said that he didn't recommend getting it until pre-K because at that age it's almost always extremely minor.  So our oldest caught it at day care, our other two had the vacinne because they never got it.

My grandfather got chicken pox in his 40s, and they were in his lungs.  He was hospitalized, and it was apparently very touch and go for a while.  This was back in the late 60s/early 70s

I need to get the shingle vaccine, have had a couple of other friends with stories like MDT's and I want no part of that.

the shingle vaccine can be a little rough on it's own, but only for about 12-24 hrs
according to my brother and CincyDawg
my doc hasn't brought it up, so I'll wait for that
