Yep.
Cast your vote, then put your head in the sand.
Got it.
I'll answer this two ways.

The first is that not everything has to be discussed everywhere. We can be judicious. So if your goal is to fight with this specific group of people about this because it gives you something, that's great. But that's what it is. Not keeping one's head in the sand. And not fighting with this specific group of people is in fact an option (one some members of this group sometimes enjoy)

As for the larger thing, I was having a conversation with a family member who was extremely agitated about some news, and I had to ask, why let this person do this to you? Like, these people want you unhappy and agitated with a lot of this nonsense, so why give them the satisfaction? Every day, you ignore some deeply sad or bad things. That's how we get through life. Does that mean we completely ignore it? No. But we can give it the proper energy it's due and not let it make our experience of life worse.

If you want to make a difference, volunteer, get involved, maybe stockpile guns just in case. But getting bent out of shape fighting with mid-grade true believers on the internet is only worthwhile if it gives you something, and people whose experience it detracts from just might say something about it (as they might not want to be around unpleasantness or unpleasant people).

So then what has happened over the last 230-240 years that got us to this point?  What's different about America today than say, 20-30 or even 50 years ago?

The only real way I think America is broken is that there is no plan to reign in the federal debt and deficit.  At least there has not been any kind of plan in a long time.
20-30 years ago, the public, politicians and others talked about the federal debt and deficit
it was a serious and important campaign issue for voters

this has changed - and it's directly due to the leadership we have

By broken, I really mean it's now pretty much locked in that the major political powers are, well, unimpressive individuals.  I don't know of any of them I find to be even "well, OK".  They all seem to me to be light weights, dishonest, charlatans, and worse.  All.

A system which generates that to me is broken.

I mean, we're not actively in a civil war, at least not a bloody one.  Sure, there are people on both side of the aisle who would glady start killing the other side in the name of their favorite cause.

Look at the voter map by county.  We are, certainly, in a bloodless civil war.  Rural vs urban.
The evidence is total.

What was it that you were saying about someone saying something stupid?
Aren't we better than this?  You're not.

There are two reasons why we have what we have.

Sigh.
No, the problem is larger than any ticket or person.  The system is the problem.

I don't see it that way.  That's simply politics.  Rural and urban voters have always been on different spectrums.

What in your view would constitute a "noncaveman reply"?  I already posted my own opinion about The System.

What sort of reply are you seeking here?  Would it make you feel better somehow if most posters here made a noncaveman reply?

It looks like a majority of this country think in large part the system works just fine

Technically, a plurality based on the last presidential election.  But I'm sure many think our system works reasonably well.  Probably many of those who do now didn't think so four years ago.

The system makes needed corrections from time to time
