I tried to turn on the local news here at 5pm - the local channels were broadcasting the inauguration
I thought it was in the morning or at least earlier in the day

I think he had a rally at the Wizards arena later in the day because the rotunda was such a limited affair due to size

the script on the bottom of the screen said, "2nd inauguration"
I was hoping since he had one 8 years ago

i guess that's what I assume they meant?

Dunno for sure, I didn't watch any of it.  I was blasting music from my new vinyl setup all day.

maybe I could go retro with a new CD setup?  got plenty of them (Well, the Ex got a bunch)

Yeah I have my old CD player in the mix as well.  I have something like 200 vinyl LP records, most of them dating back to my childhood but a handful of new audiophile re-pressings in 180g vinyl.  And I have over 500 CDs.

I finally went through my parents' "back room" at their house and found my old turntable and floor speakers.  I wish I could find my old Technics stereo amp, but I can't so I'm using a more modern A/V amp that I had lying around.  The good thing about it, is that it has a subwoofer output, so the bass is a little better than the olden days.  But my vintage amp with analog radio control was just so CLEAN.  I could buy a new amp that would get me the same quality sound, but it would be very expensive.  It's crazy how pricey HiFi equipment has become in recent years.

As I've said a few times, there's a part of me that wants to actually have a good stereo system.

And then there's another part of me that realizes that I've damaged my hearing enough over the years that I won't be able to tell the difference :57:

If you didn't want to watch it around here, you'd have had no social contact yesterday.

Lots of watch parties in the hood. We went to one. Burgers were great!

NEver watched much of any inauguration. Man that was brutal for Biden/ Harris for Trump to slam them with them sitting there like that. I’m kinda thinking that it looked more like a political rally than an inauguration.

What do you think Trump and Biden were saying as they walked out to their rides?  We’re they making small talk, or talking shit?  Seemed kinda animated, but at the same time not ?
1. They all do.

2. Only one of them remembers. :67:

For me it's less about the quality of the music, and more about the experience.  Because, as an EE you'll likely know, that modern uncompressed digital versions are either not discernably different to the human ear from vinyl/analog, or in many cases actually better than vinyl/analog reproductions and playback.  Some people prefer the "warmer" sound of the vinyl LP record but really, that just means they enjoy the imperfections inherent in the medium and playback equipment.

So for me, it's not the sound, but rather the experience and deliberate intentionality of selecting an album and listening to its in its entirety.  It's the ritual of removing the record from its sleeve-- which has large discernable graphics compared to what's available on CD or a small picture of the album art contained in your streaming medium of choice.  It's the routine of setting the record on the platter, lifting the tone arm, aligning it to the beginning of the album, and letting it play.

I have a separate room for my "Vinyl Lounge" and I've intentionally not equipped that amp with any streaming capabilities.  I've found that I'm able to disconnect and experience music in what I consider to be a much healthier and more enjoyable manner, when I go to the Vinyl Lounge and play LP record albums.  It's relaxing and comforting and for sure, more than a tad nostalgic.

To be clear, I still have streaming apps and streaming devices, and there's much to be said for the ease and convenience of whipping up a party playlist in a matter of moments using my fingertips.  But I've also found a place for relaxing and enjoying music in the way I used to, when I was a kid and teenager.  And musically, I'm at my happiest, when I'm doing so.

That makes sense. And I have to admit, if like you I had the equipment "laying around", or a room that I could do the same, it would be much more likely I'd do it.

Instead, I don't have an AV receiver, or speakers, or even a working CD player, much less a turntable. I moved on from those things decades ago through multiple apartments/houses/moves. The amount I'd have to invest for nostalgia would be significant lol...

Oh yeah, for sure.  Only reason I am able to do it is because I already have it.

If you already have an A/V amplifier for your main media/television room, you COULD buy an inexpensive turntable and route it to the inputs on that amp.  You'd need a place for the turntable near the amp of course, but other than that everything else should be in place.

But if you also don't have much vinyl already, then it's kind of pointless.  New vinyl is very expensive these days and rebuilding a full library could cost more than the equipment itself.
