This general attitude is a thing I think hurts Democrats in campaigns.  Many of them come across the same way, maybe not quite as strident, but it's a kind of paternalistic "We know what's better for you".

I mean, it's not just the way they came across in campaigns.  It's the basis of their platforms.

Maybe so, I doubt many folks worry about platforms, they are influenced by things major say that gets in the news cycle.  But yes, the overall gist if more government to take care of us.  That rubs some folks the wrong way at some point.

Obama's comments probably hurt more than helped.

You'd be singing a different tune if one of those people killed one of your kids or your wife.
