"We" tend to live in our own silos, white folks tend to live in areas that are mostly other white folks, the same is true for black folks, Asians, Hispanics, etc. So, one might also say "I don't know of any black folks, I never see any (unless I go into town).".
It's a bit like travel internationally, if you are able to do it for more than just "seeing the sights", you likely will discover "These folks are pretty much like us.".
Humans are basically about the same, humans also tend to dramaticize differences based on movies, the "news", what their cousin Bill told them, etc.
