I guess I don't see the point of such editorials (beyond attracting readers who head nod).  I don't see any realistic chance the EC will be abandoned.  Whether we should or not is basically immaterial.

There is an effort among some states to circumvent it, which is rather interesting, but possibly not "legal" (or possibly it is).  One can rail on about the EC all day, but it's not going to be changed by any amendment or other tactic (in the next few decades anyway).  There are some arguments for keeping it of course.  I suspect if Republicans started losing in the EC but winning in the PV often, the opinions might magically shift.

If you went by the polls, Trump lost in 2016.

There was ineffective, insufficient polling in various states in 2016.  I view polls as a kind of window into likelihoods of an outcome, they usually are about right, but folks overlook that margin of error component.  We're seeing a lot more polling today in BG states, but I do wonder about their methodology today.
