Problem is that "too big to fail" doesn't mean it won't fail. It just means that when it does, it'll be a catastrophe.
Sure, but construct the "when it does" scenario.  With no entity to trip the wire, the mechanism doesn't function (thankfully).

The tripwire not having been found yet doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

There are a few "tripwires" that could induce a major economic collapse.  One would be a major conflict, spending would have to increase majorly, and it would be deficit spending.  The second would be a typical recession that spirals into something worse because there is no "dry powder".  Government usually tries to spend its way out of recession, and the Fed lowers interest rates and does qualitative easing to help, both are close to being tapped out.  Past recessions were often presaged by oil price shocks, we were having to send trillions overseas for oil, that situation is a bit better today, and could be why we haven't had a major recession since 2008-9 (COVID was a very sharp recession).

Imagine China really does attack Taiwan (I don't foresee this any time soon), and the US decides to intercede, and things get rough.  We'd lose all imports from China and have to spend more money on imports from somewhere else, while spending a lot more on the war itself.  I THINK China is playing the Long Game on Taiwan.

The longer term issue would be if the deficit continues to grow faster than GDP and the debt service grows as a line item in the Federal budget to the point it basically takes too much to service it.  Could we cut spending to compensate?  I think serious cuts in spending would cause a recession, which would lower revenues, causing more cuts, and the spiral kicks off that way.  But we HAVE to start trimming the deficit some, we should have done it years ago and didn't.  It's like Social Security, the longer you wait the more painful the fix.

And the proposals by both candidates would make both worse.

My wife and I early voted, it was remarkably efficient and well managed.  We used a touch screen to vote, then printed a ballot, which then was read with a scanner.  No line, fairly steady stream of voters.  They checked out IDs, scanned our DLs and then gave us a green card to insert in the voting machine.  It's a beautiful day here, just about perfect weatherwise.

Yeah my i s c & a aggie wife and I always early vote.  We went on Monday morning, no lines, took us 8-10 minutes in and out which was mainly just because there were so many down-ballot items to vote on.

We had the form to request a mail in ballot.  I thought it asked too many personal questions, including my SS #, so I told the wife not to send it in.

I don't like having that much info 'Out there" somewhere.
