Also, it doesn't help that companies liked the 'new normal' of higher prices and haven't and likely won't ever bring prices back down as far as they comfortably could.
Companies usually are facing higher prices for the products they buy, and labor, so no, they aren't gonig to bring prices back down broadly speaking.  What I'm not seeing is any dramatic or near dramatic increase in profit margins, which would indicate whether a company is benefiting unduly from high prices or simple passing on higher prices.

I've looked at a number of retail outlets, and their profits margins are down if anything, not up.  I'm sure one could find an exception.  But companies like Kroger get pinched when their supplies increase prices and Kroger can't pass on the entire increment.

Lol I'm not the one trying to claim crime is up then passing it off with statistics from two years ago. What a sham.
Speaking of Sham I am going to post a link as well as what I posted CIncy on this

FBI quietly updates crime data to show big jump in violence under Biden-Harris admin: 'Shocking'

A 2.1% drop in violent crimes in 2022 has now been revised to show a 4.5% increase

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/fbi-quietly-updates-crime-data-show-big-jump-violence-under-biden-harris-admin-shocking

------------------------------------------

Funny Fox News was just talking about how the FBI's report left out a lot of big cities

There is also other problems with their data as has been explained to you before.

''I no longer have the link and could not find where I posted it yesterday to a false statement put forth by your read headed step child.

The FBI a few changed the way Crime is reported and set, if memory serves me correctly, 5 categories. There is no requirement for the jurisdiction to check and report all that apply its up to them how they report it.

Let me create 5 hypothetical ones for demonstration purposes.

1. Murder

2. Kidnapping

3. Armed robbery Bank

4. Assault with intent to commit murder

5. Curse in a response the Moth Family

Say Joe cursed a member of the Moth Family, while robbing a bank, hits one member of the moth family with his butt stock in the head, takes one of them hostage and kills the bloating one who keeps repeating meh, meh over while accusing them of muddling along.

Jurisdiction A says Holy Mother of God this guy committed all 5 and I will report them as such. So there is 5 crimes reported

Jurisdiction B says they committed a community service by ridding us of a 2 member of the moth family so all I am reporting is the Armed bank Robbery.

So there is only 1 crime reported.

Jurisdiction C says Murder and the intent to commit murder are the most serious but we must report the Bank robbery,

So there are 3 crimes reported.

So forth and so on.

Add in during the self invented COVID crises and they let out everyone willy nilly we had more criminals out on the streets who committed more crimes, we had jurisdictions under the influence of the CF you helped elect say we can't charge bail just release the little misguided perverts so crime continued to rise.

Since then in some places some degree of sanity has returned and the perps are being locked up again and low and behold crime has dropped.

In Blue states as it is a Politically incorrect to have more crime reported as it harms Joes chances of being elected are they only reporting the minimum thus massaging the stats, much like world temp states are massaged? Don't know but do to anecdotal evidences, knowing whats going on by those whop have some street savvy more and more women are buying guns to protect themselves as are others.

It does not take a Eisenstein to know that something is amiss.''

As with many such things, a person can reach a conclusion first, and then scour the Internet for some kind of supportive data.

The important thing, of course, is to decide what you want before doing any searching.

You might end up being wrong, but you'll feel better about yourself.

Trump should say Nebraska beat Indiana. You can't trust the media to tell you who won.

Companies don't set prices. The market (via supply and demand) sets prices. If companies set prices, they'd never lose money. Ultimately prices will always normalize to costs + overhead + enough profit to satisfy owners/investors.

Yes, you're correct that companies will try not to reduce prices if they don't have to. But in a competitive market, they always have to, because another company will drop prices to increase market share if they can do so while remaining profitable. And if there's profit to be made, another company will ALSO invest to increase production to reap some of that profit.

Supply and demand, long term, set prices. "Record profits" or "losses" are short term in every industry when--for whatever reason--investment and supply planning didn't adequately account for demand.

(Read page 6, as well as the rest of the document, if you want to see how this plays out in a real world industry.)

As a business owner demand plays a big part in how I set my prices.

If I own a McDonalds, my demand is as high as pre-COVID and perhaps a little higher, as perhaps some people got out of the habit of eating in a restaurant.  My prices increased when demand was down, but with demand back up and my business being sort of an institution (people are going to McDonald as long as it stays consistent), why the hell would I lower my prices?
To its credit, they came out with a $5 meal, but it's less to ease costs to customers and more to compete with other fast-food places' low-dollar meals.
