Perhaps not, but the federal ruling has already been overturned.  I suppose they could try to get a new federal ruling on it, that is 100% pro-life?  Good luck with that.

This is now, and WILL be, a state issue, which is much better than it being a federal issue.
I assume they're trying. All they need is for SCOTUS to proclaim that a fetus is a "person" with legal rights and thus deserving equal protection under the 14th Amendment. And for that they probably need one conservative-leaning circuit court to find that and one liberal-leaning circuit court to find the opposite thus making it a conflict that the SCOTUS has to resolve. And I don't necessarily put making that ruling past this SCOTUS given the current court makeup.

That said, this will be my last post on the issue. It's not an issue I find particularly interesting. My biggest issue with Roe getting overturned is that this now became an actual electoral issue. I much preferred when it was all a theoretical argument because Roe was in place, which many thought would never be overturned.

I like beer.  It's legal here.
It's even legal to make yourself at home in Alabama now, as of 2013! Alabama and Mississippi were the last two states to legalize homebrewing in 2013. Yay freedom!

Although Alabama is still more restrictive than the federal limit (200 gal/year) at only 15 gal per calendar quarter, and it's illegal to possess more than 15 gal at a time.

But at least now they don't have to drive 2+ hours to get to TN or GA to get their homebrew equipment and ingredients. That's progress!

However, I do have a bone of contention for the "make it easier" crowd.  Oh the horror, I may have to drive 2-3 hours to have a potential life-altering procedure performed.  Good Lord.  It's harder, and much farther way, for 99.9% of Americans to take their kids to Disney World.  Cry me a river.

Do what you will, but don't complain that it's not made super convenient for you.
What about six hours? Or 12? What if it’s a person without a car? Or without the job flexibility? Should family planning only be for folks with money?

I fall in line with what our Purdue fan friend said. If the government wants to limit it because it’s good politics, eff that. If it’s hard because no one wants to open a clinic in a given place, well that’s tough beans.

(I would say it would be good to undercut all this with broad access to non-procedural means, but it seems that irks some folks too)

Edit: also worth nothing, a woman is getting a life-altering procedure either way. And no one would be happy making others drive a long way for that.

There's a lot to think about before having unprotected sex.

These days I think you can free birth control just about anywhere.

At times, the female involved is not ... agreeing to it, of course.

At one extreme, we have some folks saying "It should be between the woman and her doctor", e.g., NO limits of any kind relating to gestational state.

At the other, we have "life begins at conception", which would eliminate the Pill, IUDs, and IVF.

Most of "us" I suspect struggle to find some acceptable point in between.  Ever notice how the extremists often drive the discussion in such cases/topics?

I don't see any extremists in this room, but yeah, they are noisy.

I don't know much about how most states operate. Here, it's 6 weeks, with some exceptions. The Governor signed a bill to make it 6 weeks, but it didn't stick with the FSC so exceptions and such were added.

Amendment 4 is on the ballot in 3 weeks.

I am of the opinion that life begins at conception as is most of my family and a great many of people that I associate with. However, NONE of those I mention have a problem with birth control.

I simply do not agree with your assessment of that group. I'm sure there are some that have that position, but your generalization does not seem valid.

Several forms of birth control interfere with implantation AFTER conception, and of course IVF involves conception without implantation of every example.

IUDs function by preventing implantation after conception, and the Pill does that as well in some cases.

  • Birth control pills
Estrogens and progestins in birth control pills can inhibit implantation by:

    • Suppressing the hypothalamus and pituitary gland
    • Thickening cervical mucus to prevent sperm transport
    • Inhibiting sperm capacitation
  • Intrauterine devices
These devices can prevent implantation by:

    • Causing an inflammatory response that destroys the blastocyst and sperm
    • Increasing prostaglandin production
    • Increasing the motility of the ovum in the fallopian tube
    • Immobilizing sperm in the uterine cavity

We had a layover at Dulles recently, and my wife wanted a Coke.  I went into about 5 separate stores in the airport and they all had Pepsi, no Coke.

I was in a cheeseburger place in NYC once, same thing.

Vending contracts can be weird...

A couple years ago we went to see Train in concert, with Blues Traveler and Jewel as openers. Jewel, who I was kinda interested to see just as a weird 90s nostalgia throwback, was a mess, so we went looking for concessions.

What we hoped to find was Train's wine brand. Save Me, San Francisco Wine Co. Figuring that somehow they'd work around the vending contract since the performing artist actually owns a wine label. Nope... Just their normal concessions.

I find this a lot with beer at airports, too... A lot of airports don't have any good local craft beer--not because there isn't a market for them, but because the big concession company that holds the contract for ALL food & beverages at that airport doesn't care enough to offer it.

I suppose I would do is reduce the influence of government in the matter.

And if someone has the will, there’s always coat hangers, I suppose.
