Ending zoning restrictions to allow the construction of large housing projects for low income Democrat voters in the suburbs.  Everything that arrogant jackass did was related to maintaining and expanding political power.
Yeah, because those projects worked so well in large cities, let's do it in the suburbs.

Hmmm? Lotta weird subtext in that one.
It does a good job of threading the needle of inflation being the biggest problem in the country and also doing anything about it is evil.

Zoning is simply not high on my list of priorities.  We have scads of zoning around me, it's a "special district" above and beyond whatever the city does.  I've chatted a few times with the "folks in charge" and it all seems to work pretty well here.  The head of the "Midtown Alliance" struck me as pretty intelligent and articulate.  I learned from him that a lot of the restrictions are voluntary but the developers abide by them with few exceptions.

I realize zoning is a problem in some places.  A thing I do like about Europe is no/little surburban sprawl of strip malls and the like.  Their restrictions can of course be a pain locally.  Anyway, not really a thing for me personally, but whatever.  I'm obviously not a fan of Obama and don't think he "did" much, fortunately.

Right,  maybe not Cabrini-Green but lots of multi-family units.  It drastically would change the suburbs.

The suburbs here in which I grew up have drastically changed racially since I lived there.

Zoning strikes me as an entirely local issue.  I realize some zoning is not what we might like, but the idea of having the Feds pass laws about it is not one to which I would subscribe.  I have no clue what Obama said about it, and don't really care, it's just words in the wind.

The underlying issue is that there is a housing shortage, and nearly every housing development has to be "approved" by layers of government and is often opposed by people in the community. That significantly reduces the ability of the market to meet the demand for housing. While I certainly understand the impulse to oppose anything that changes a community, it is also a very significant restriction on property rights. Sort of conservative socialism.

Meh, plenty of liberal NIMBYs all over Austin.
