Listen, I don't doubt that both sides have power brokers, and that the power brokers on both sides are chummy with the donors who are going to provide the funds. If the power broker doesn't think someone can win, and the donors don't think someone can win, they're going to try to change who runs.
And yes, I absolutely 100% buy that Obama is one of those power brokers, and a powerful one.
But I don't buy that he has anything near the power over the rest of the party that Trump does over the Rs. Trump will publicly and powerfully attack ANYONE on the R side that he thinks is being disloyal. And not disloyal to Republicanism, disloyal to Trump himself.
IMHO it is a difference not only in degree but in kind.
Trump is a former President of the Republican party who is running for a 2nd term and
has won the Republican party nominee for President. And Trump has a pretty good chance of winning said second term. Obama already served his two terms as President. Can't run again. Obviously. Trump is obviously thereby going to have considerable power of his party as the official and current HMIC. Trump has power over the party and should have said power because:
HE WAS VOTED IN by the voters to said have power of his party. Obama can't be elected. No one voted for Obama to wield the power he currently has, he flat out shouldn't have the kind of
awesome power over the Democratic party that he does. It's flat out.....hint hint.....
undemocratic.
To suggest that Obama doesn't wield
massive amounts of sway and power over Democratic party is just patently false. And he's had said sway over the party since 2016, and there have been mountains of reporting on this done from everything from Axios to Politico to Jacobin to NBC News to CNN to Sy Hersh dating back to 2016. All of this has been well documented and reported from 100 different sources from every different aisle of the political spectrum. You clearly haven't read up on it- you probably should. Obama has meddled in the elections and hand-picked the last 3 candidates from President. I don't recall seeing anything quite like this in the history of Presidential politics. Every other President of my life-time- when they left the White House- they left the White House and stopped trying to control the candidates of the party. For fucksake W's own
brother was running in 2016 and he never tried fuckery behind the scenes to ensure his brother would be the RNC candidate. Obama? LOL.
For the life of me it boggles my mind that people do not understand any of this.
