I’m sort of struck that any VP pick was probably gonna lead to agita. Seems like the nature of modern politics. If the side you don’t like does something, there’s probably something you don’t like about it.
I actually love the choice.

Tim Walz attended the 1993 Oklahoma game. I was there as well. The temperatures were below zero but the Huskers' big win made everybody feel warm. Nebraska beat Oklahoma 21-7 to go 11-0 and to lock up an Orange Bowl bid to play Florida State for the national title. I "stormed" the field that day. GBR!

Sure.  It’s a lefty state.  When I went there fishing, people freaking hated him but then again I was not hanging out in Minneapolis      His policies to be so far left and extremely offensive
Though he moderates that by running an effective 3-4 defense

It isn't as lefty as it used to be. Back in the 1980's Minnesota was probably double digits left of average but lately it is a fringe swing state.
  • 1980: R+9.3 nationally, D+4 in MN, MN 13.3 more D
  • 1984: R+18.2 nationally, D+ .2 in MN, MN 18.4 more D (note, this was with "native son Mondale as the D nominee)
  • 1988: R+7.8 nationally, D+7 in MN, MN 14 more D
  • 1992: D+5.6 nationally, D+11.6 in MN, MN 6 more D
  • 1996: D+8.5 nationally, D+16.1 in MN, MN 7.6 more D
  • 2000: D+.5 nationally, D+2.4 in MN, MN 1.9 more D
  • 2004: R+2.4 nationally, D+2.5 in MN, MN 4.9 more D
  • 2008: D+7.2 nationally, D+10.2 in MN, MN 3 more D
  • 2012: D+3.9 nationally, D+7.7 in MN, MN 3.8 more D
  • 2016: D+2.1 nationally, D+1.5 in MN, MN .6 more R
  • 2020: D+4.5 nationally, D+7.1 in MN, MN 2.6 more D

From 1980-1988 MN voted 13.3-18.4 more D than the nation. Since then they haven't voted more than 7.6 to the left of the nation and since 1996 they haven't voted more than 4.9 to the left of the nation.

With their D governor on the ballot this year they'll likely lean further left than they have recently but I doubt they'll get close to double digits.

I don't think it will matter, had the pick been Shapiro or Kelly, the knives would have been out for them, just as they were for Vance.

I think the election may hinge on whether they can keep Harris out of nonmanaged scenarios, the economy, and whether Trump can somehow rein in his impulsive behaviors.

Most folks are already decided.

The stock market futures are up again today a bit.  I was looking for a dead cat bounce, and maybe yesterday and today are just that.

I believe back in the day it was more of a 4-4. Hopefully some enterprising podcaster can get him on the record on how he taught those outside guys to play contain properly.

Walz was born in West Point, Nebraska. After high school, he joined the Army National Guard and worked a blue-collar manufacturing job. He later graduated from Chadron State College in Nebraska.
