Crime stats only valuable when they go up. When they go down, obviously it is a nationwide conspiracy of suppressed reporting

It's not a conspiracy, it's simply a policy.

Using loaded language in an attempt to legitimize logical fallacies isn't a proof, especially when the explanation is simple.

That is being adopted nationwide? I'm skeptical

Why?  We've already established that urban governments tend to be more left-leaning than rural ones.  And the trend to prosecute less, and arrest less, is a result of leftist policy that we're seeing in major cities around the country.

Austin city government is notorious for copycatting the cities it idealizes, like Portland and Seattle and San Francisco.  So there's no surprise that the policies all have similar results.

Again, it's not a conspiracy, it's an inevitable result of enacting similar policy across many large urban areas.

Whether crime is up or down, it's clearly a concern for a lot of folks.

The same is true with the economy.

If voters PERCEIVED a strong economy and low crime and a controlled border, the incumbent would win handily.

Because there is no evidence supporting it. It's basically a vibes check that says any reporting is false, and then we can substitute our own opinions. "Crime is down in conservative parts because of policy and down in liberal parts because of false reporting." That is handily fact free and also impervious to any criticism. The people have to join in the conspiracy, because crime rates are determined by reports, not by prosecutors.

The police chief in Chicago is on record stating that the policies of (Soros-backed) Kim Foxx has made his officers to not bother with arrests anymore, for anything other than truly violent crimes. And even many of those go unnoticed as there are no longer enough officers (people don't want a job where they are not appreciated).
This logic very quickly seems to start eating its own tail.

Crime stats are most likely not dictated by arrests. If I murder you but never get caught, we have no arrest or prosecution, but the murder stands on the books. It wouldn't make sense to have arrests dictate these things for a variety of reasons.

Now the argument could be that cops are simply deciding not to do their paperwork because they think it's pointless. That probably wouldn't speak well of officers. It would also cast them as stupid because it would make what Mrs. Foxx is doing look in some way successful. Maybe they are just taking it easy and making her stats look better, but that doesn't speak well of everyone involved.

There's also an odd one with the property crimes factor. Sometimes the story is that it's up (because the stats say so). But elsewhere the story is it's not reported because the DAs won't prosecute. And that ignores the fact that the motivation for getting something reported it likely more financial (insurance claims) than making sure someone is prosecuted next year.

It ends up a confusing mess, but somehow it always emerges in a way that matches a particular story folks want to tell.

"Chicago police say nearly all categories of crime declined in the city in the first three months of the year. "

Must be part of the vast conspiracy

Yes, crime is down in Chicago for the reasons I stated. Cops are not doing their jobs and there are less of them. Their hands are tied, and they are neutered.

Congrats, I guess?
