The thing about crime is that it's almost entirely state and local, there aren't all that many Federal crimes that impact most of us.  Even murder is not a Federal crime except in specific instances.

Crime reported locally here is down.  Maybe they fudge the numbers, I have no way of knowing.

When you are allowed to smash and grab things with value up to $1000, and it isn’t a crime- of course you can report crime down.  😂

Austin DA doesn't prosecute, so the police stopped arresting.  Crime is down.

Property damage and theft and insurance rates on the other hand, are up.  

But, less crime.  Yay.

It strikes me that at a certain point these kind of things sort of transcending meaning. They mean something when they align with certain feelings and if they don’t align with those feelings, they’re deemed meaningless. 

When we want to feel bad about something, there will be someway to explain how that’s a problem. And then if we don’t, we’ll find to point out why things are actually good.

(I’m sure there’s some interesting stuff in the actual way these things are tabulated, with quirks, and probably blind spots, but it doesn’t strike me as if there’s some genuine interest in that particular space)

The police chief in Chicago is on record stating that the policies of (Soros-backed) Kim Foxx has made his officers to not bother with arrests anymore, for anything other than truly violent crimes. And even many of those go unnoticed as there are no longer enough officers (people don't want a job where they are not appreciated).
