I agree in a good bit with my family and I still loathe talking politics with them.

My family is all over the spectrum.  My parents know that, and decide to inject their politics into the family text chain into non political conversations.  I remember them sitting me down with the seriousness of a death in the family to tell me they had voted for Ross Perot in 1992, and that they were trusting me not to tell a soul.  So even people that grew up in the "dont discuss money, politics or religion" era have pivoted

That was one of the things that soured me on Facebook. Not even family-related.

It's one thing to see the other side post stupid sophomoric easily-debunked political crap on Facebook. You can look at them and say "gosh, they're dumb."

But then when people who are on your own side post stupid sophomoric easily-debunked political crap on Facebook, it just hits different. It's like "holy crap, I'm being seen as equivalent to THESE effing idiots? Ew!"

My biggest problem with FB is the sponsored posts that are obviously wrong and only exist because of the army of people correcting it in arrogance or outrage.

As if clickbait isn't a known thing.

Yeah I have an idiot friend that became so offended at the USA in 2016 for electing Trump, that he moved to Slovakia.  At that point I lost track of him because all he ever posted was political crap and I unfollowed him.

Anyway, obviously it's harder to avoid political discussion when you're meeting family in person.  With my parents, I just told them not to do it, if they want to see me and their grandchildren visiting.

Burnt Eyes moved to Slovakia???

NEW YORK (AP) — A manipulated video that mimics the voice of Vice President Kamala Harris saying things she did not say is raising concerns about the power of artificial intelligence to mislead with Election Day about three months away.

The video gained attention after tech billionaire Elon Musk shared it on his social media platform X on Friday evening without explicitly noting it was originally released as parody.

The video uses many of the same visuals as a real ad that Harris, the likely Democratic president nominee, released last week launching her campaign. But the video swaps out the voice-over audio with another voice that convincingly impersonates Harris.

“I, Kamala Harris, am your Democrat candidate for president because Joe Biden finally exposed his senility at the debate,” the voice says in the video. It claims Harris is a “diversity hire” because she is a woman and a person of color, and it says she doesn’t know “the first thing about running the country.” The video retains “Harris for President” branding. It also adds in some authentic past clips of Harris.

I saw the video. I can’t imagine anybody would mistake it for authentic.

There are probably an equal amount or more showing Trump in a negative light.

It is free speech. If you don’t like it, mute the kinds of people you don’t want to see.

Free speech is duping gullible people and influencing them, and it's only going to get worse.
