most campaign ads are a waste of money

especially if I'm their target - I don't vote, at all

of course, most people don't vote

Campaign ads usually are targetted at voters who don't pay much attention to current events or politics.  They say "I hate all that, I ignore the news", which they do for the most part.  So, they don't have much real information on which to make a judgment, but many of them feel an obligation to vote.  A fancy ad can appeal to them, it's not about issues, it's purely optics.  Show the smiling candidate with an enthused crowd and US flag and nice music and say he/she is for "Great things in our future!".

You hope to reach, and influence, 1-3% of the viewers that way.

For Harris right now it's an attempt to persuade Democratic voters she's a great candidate.  Her ads will pivot soon.

Last week EA Sports’ College Football 25 hit the shelves, after more than a decade of holding off their annual releases. Not sure if you guys might’ve noticed, but in the months and weeks leading to the first day of sales, I haven’t seen the release of a sports game more anticipated and celebrated across social media and elsewhere on the internet.

NIL was the primary reasons for the long pause:

“EA Sports’ college football games used to be released annually, a cultural icon in American sports for much of the franchise’s existence. The company froze future editions in 2013 when athletes began questioning why they weren’t getting paid to be featured in the games.”

“With athlete compensation rights sorted out in court and now allowed by the NCAA, EA Sports announced in 2021 it would be reviving the franchise. The video-game developer offered Bowl Subdivision players a minimum of $600 and a copy of the game to have their likeness included in it. More than 11,000 players accepted offers.”

Listen, you aren't going to convince me that something is neutral when the owner is promoting one candidate for president on the platform. If Mark Zuckerberg was putting a daily reminder to vote for Kamala on your Facebook feed you would look at me like I had two heads if I tried to tell you that was actually neutral.

As far as Alex Jones, Trump has called into that mess, so he at least took it seriously. Roger Stone had his own show on the network. Which is my main point - it is hard to moderate "conservative" content because the line between nutjob conspiracy theories and actually legitimate points is hard to discern. How does Facebook decide what is conservative and what is utee's "not conservative." I don't know and neither do they.
Versus all the other SM sites who are backed by people who contribute massive amounts to democratic far left causes and candidates?

But, you’re right, I’m not really interested in trying to convince you. I just simply enjoy visiting a site that I feel is not being censored for having political views contrary to others.

Twitter/X and Facebook are both cesspools, and I'm convinced that a lot of people in this world would be happier if they deleted their accounts and went on with their lives in the meatspace world.

Never been on either.  TikTok - same.

I find Facebook to be amusing.  I don't post anything political, and I unfollow anyone that regularly posts political crap, other than my parents unfortunately.

But it's a good way to post pics of the kids and keep the entire extended family updated on what we're doing without having to spend a ton of time on the phone.  So for me, that's a huge benefit.

The political posts on FB basically allow me to keep track of the various tactics the campaigns are pushing these days.  One has been that "corporations" caused inflation so they could get higher profits, for example.  Another is how DJT will "end democracy".  Another is how some Democrat will steal the election and we'll all be communists if she is elected.  I recall folks saying we'd be a Muslim nation if Obama was elected.

It was for me too, but I see that certain parts of the family out West have become radical. It's not good. So, I'm thinking about dropping out again.

One BIL posted that he wished the sniper was a better shot. That has since been taken down - by him, mind you.

Yeah I just unfollow dumbass family members that post dumbass stuff.  That way they can see my updates if they want, and I never see anything they post at all.

Now, if they were to make some dumbass comments on one of MY posts, there'd be fisticuffs!

I get these little videos on FB a lot now, one is of an apparent janitor in a health club who asks if he can move what looks to be a very heavy set of weights on a bar, and does, to the amazement of the assembled.

Another has a pretty good looking blond Brit who listens to quasi-dirty jokes and laughs or pretends not to understand.

Then there are these:

We have a 90th birthday party for my MIL in Phoenix yet this year. I last saw all of them about a year ago and they were mostly able to stay away from politics. Hopefully that will continue.

Not looking forward to this one - especially if their side loses. In 2016 they lost their shit and had to find safe spaces. Seriously.
