I know/knew very little about JD Vance. I did see Hilbilly Eligy awhile back. I didn’t really know much about him or the movie.

I did hear he was anti Trump at first, but has obviously changed his mind. People are allowed to do that. I have done it many times in my own views.

Such a great point.  Kamala ripped Joe to shreds in her only debate against him. Insinuated he was racist, among many other things.

A few months later, after Joe publicly committed to choosing a black woman as VP ( which by definition eliminates other races and gender-making a DEI hire - no idea why they are backing off that obvious truth). Kamala accepts.
Vance on the other hand, said nasty things about Trump publicly and then four years later after seeing him perform an office said his mind was changed. He said it was changed by the actual performance.

The pick of JD Vance as the running mate is looking worse by the hour.
Not for Trump fans.   Just because you read it on MSNBC- doesn’t make it true.

Candidates for a job are going to talk themselves up and their opponents down (Harris-Biden).

Vance was nowhere near that with Trump.  They weren't competing for the same job.  Kind of a big difference.

For Trump fans, he could have picked Steve Bannon and they'd have cheered it.

The problem with Vance is that he risks alienating the independents. The ones who might have been leaning Trump over Sleepy Joe, but they see Vance as wanting to usher in The Handmaid's Tale... Is Vance going to play well with suburban women? Because I don't think Trump needs to shore up support amongst the non-college angry incel male demo. He's got that one locked up.

I don’t put too much stock in what he said because Trump is so much different than all others. He says so much shit all the time and gets so much nasty stuff back it doesn’t even register anymore.

Personally, if Kamala was smart she’d just skip any debates with him. I think she’d only come out looking worse. I think the debates is what lost Hillary the election.

I’ve seen her in previous debates and she just looks intense and seething. Like she wants to wrong every perceived injustice for the last 2,000 years in one swoop. Frankly, she just looks angry a lot.

That’s one way of looking at it, but of course I think that’s one-sided.

You have a person who arose from nothing join the military got multiple degrees started and ran a business and now is in politics.  He grew up around addiction, which plays well to the many moms around the country who have lost or fear losing their children to the fentanyl that’s coming across the border.  I think he plays well to the younger crowd who doesn’t necessarily relate to Donald Trump.

Lastly,we’re talking about policies here and personalities, but the data shows that the vice president selection has very little impact on the election.  If you just look at how intelligent and articulate JD Vance is compared to our current vice president the difference is very stark. Harris has been viewed by the media and even the Democrats as a political lightweight with very little ability to articulate a vision.

A lot may depend where you live.

Where I live, my vote doesn't matter. The state electoral college votes are going to the Democrat. It's a foregone conclusion.

So it doesn't matter how I vote. Voting Libertarian, however, is an infinitesimal signal to the two main parties that I'm unhappy with both of them. Whereas voting for the lesser of two evils might send the message that I think they're not evil, and that I support them (which I don't).

So voting Libertarian, in a non-swing state, is purely a protest vote, a "vote of no confidence", but without any chance of affecting the election.

It's why I tell people who are in swing states that maybe they have to vote pragmatically, but if you're NOT in a swing state, vote your conscience. Because it doesn't matter.

If more people in swing states would vote 3rd party then we might finally get somewhere.

But Identity Politics have many of those people so scared of the imaginary evils of one guy or the other, that they tend to fall back to the party line.

Yeah, I kind of view the VP as a baseball manager.  There's not much they can add, but if he's a train wreck, it is harmful (see: Palin).
