I'm guilty of not wanting uneducated people to run important things and find it embarrassing for adults to believe in an invisible man in the sky.

Ya got me.
I don't recall saying that uneducated people should "run important things".

Oh right, that is because I didn't, my comment that you quoted was:
"Also I think that overly focusing on Trump is mistaken because, as I said earlier, I think he is more an effect than a cause.

If you look at Fro's posts, his utter contempt for non-college whites is evident particularly if they are religious."

As per usual, rather than actually address my point you:
  • Created an extremely weak point loosely similar to mine, then
  • Beat up the strawman that you had created.

That, however, isn't really germane to my underlying point about Democratic elitism. You proved that point in spades.

I rest my case.

If Joe does drop out under pressure from the elites (so much for "Democracy"...), Harris is the nominee. I don't think they could pivot from her due to backlash.

Who is the VP? Is there an obvious choice?

Apparently the shooter wasn't discriminating, may have shot Biden too but Trump's event was closer to his house.
If true, that would be very similar to Hinkley who had planned to shoot Carter but didn't pull it off before Carter left office so he shot Reagan instead.

The problem for the candidates, the SS, and the country is that a lot of people simply aren't going to buy that.

To many on the left it was staged to make Trump look good. To many on the right it was a "leftist" attempt to take out Trump.

I would say Newsome except that he is from California which presents at least three problems:
  • They'd have to "pull a Cheney" because both can't be from the same state, and
  • Republicans LOVE to run against "California liberals" and even if Harris de-registered in DC, she'd obviously still be a Californian and former California Senator so that just makes it too easy for the Republican ad writers.
  • California obviously isn't a swing state. They'd obviously be much better off with a VP who could help deliver PA, MI, WI, or some other contested State.

The obvious example of #3 is Gretchen Whitmer but I don't know that they'd go with her.

Is there anything in the Constitution about levels of education for elected officials?  I haven't read it recently so I'm not entirely sure.

Looking at the new 538 poll, they give Biden a slight edge- saying if the boat were today, Biden would win 54 out of 100 times.
I give a lot of weight to what 538 says because I think Silver is a really smart guy and obviously because they were pretty much the lone voice of sanity leading up to the 2016 election.

FWIW, what they got right and most everyone else got wrong prior to the 2016 election was the realization that it isn't actually 50 completely distinct statewide elections, it is one national election that is broken into 50 parts for counting/assigning EV's.  Specifically:

Just prior to the 2016 election Trump was behind and more-or-less needed to win something like eight of eight swing states.  Now if you simply assume that each of those eight is 50/50 then Trump's chances of near zero:
  • 50% chance to win one.
  • 25% chance to win two/two.
  • 12.5% chance to win 3/3.
  • 6.25% chance to win 4/4.
  • 3.13% chance to win 5/5.
  • 1.56% chance to win 6/6.
  • 0.78% chance to win 7/7.
  • 0.39% chance to win 8/8.
Thus, a lot of pollsters asserted that Trump had a near-zero chance.

Nate Silver/538's great realization was that they aren't eight separate and unrelated elections with Trump having a 50/50 shot in each.  They are all related.  Anything that happens that moves the needle Trump's way is likely to move the needle his way in ALL EIGHT states.  Alternatively, if the model the pollsters are using under-samples Republicans by a couple points, it is probably undersampling Republicans by a couple points in ALL EIGHT states.

All this is just to say that I'm not in the camp that thinks it is "over".  I'm in the camp that thinks that Biden will (drop out / be pushed aside) so we don't even know who the nominees will be yet.

He didn't buy it.
Initially they said it was his father's (legally purchased) firearm.  Then I heard he bought it hours before.  Now back to its his fathers.

Hard to keep track of all of it because people throw anything out there with just one source because there's no backlash for getting it wrong.

I think what you heard is that he bought the ladder and ammo hours before, maybe? That much is true.

Ah, but this is time-sensitive.
Up through Clinton, I was 50/50.  I even voted for W the first time (albeit for my recently deceased mom - voted how she would have) because I didn't view him as appreciably worse than Gore.

But I saw Bush and found him to be stupid and then post-9/11 happened, which was severe, and so on and so forth and here we are in 2024.

Yes, the Rs are light years away from me now.  But I haven't moved.  They have.
So too, have the Dems.  Maybe not light years, but very, very far.

So your sentiment that I'm further away from the Rs is correct, but it's not having anything to do with me.  That was their choice, to become more and more radical.

Ronald Reagan would despise the current GOP, and everyone here knows it.
I'm fascinated by this:
First, I think that if you thought W was stupid, you either bought his act or swallowed the leftist talking points.  It was so strong that there was a Harvard Professor who had taught both Bush and Kerry who came out and said more-or-less that Kerry was smart and Bush was stupid but then when they dug up the transcripts it turned out that the Prof had given Bush higher marks than Kerry.

Bush was a wealthy, coastal elitist.  IMHO, he at some point realized that being a country-club R from CT would never get him elected dogcatcher let alone anything higher so he rebranded himself as a Texan "man of the people".  I can even tell you when the point was.  Bush LOST his first election.  He ran for Congress and his Democratic opponent branded him as an out-of-touch coastal elitist.  Bush lost and, I think he learned from that and retuned his image accordingly.

What I'm actually more interested in is your insinuation that the R's have moved right.  On what issues?  You mentioned voting for W before 9/11 so in 2000.  Ok, can you name some issues on which the R's have moved RIGHT since then?

Upthread @Cincydawg referred to the Country and the Democrats moving left and I see that, that is reality.  What issues have the R's moved right on?
