[color=var(--YLNNHc)]What is the population trend in New York City?

NYC's Population Declines by 78,000 - The New York Times

[color=var(--bbQxAb)]The city lost nearly 78,000 residents in 2023, shrinking its population to 8.26 million people, according to the estimates, which were released on Thursday. In 2022, it lost more than 126,000 residents. From April 2020 to July 2023, the city lost almost 550,000 residents, or more than 6 percent of its population

No doubt, all moving to cornfields in Kansas.

Suburban areas usually are "purple".  I see housewives voting Blue and husbands boting Red fairly often.
Statistically this is a bit of a misconception.

There IS a gender gap with women voting somewhat more Democratic than men. This is discussed ad nauseum by the media. The much bigger gap, however, is the almost never mentioned marriage gap. Married people of both genders and all races vote substantially more Republican than single people otherwise of the same demographics.

Statistically speaking, there aren't all that many husband R, wife D households. The gap is much larger among single people.

I warned you that you wouldn't like the answer. It's clear you don't.

It doesn't matter where they are going. The point is that they are going.

The ones who are going are the ones who pay taxes. Think about that for a minute.

States like Illinois, New York and California are not only losing people. They are losing buckets of revenue too.

I suspect they're mostly going to places like Florida, Georgia, and Texas.

Yeah they are going to other cities. Cincinnati and Cleveland areas, built on huge manufacturing plants that closed down, lost population. Columbus is growing. It's silly to say people are fleeing cities, as going from one city to another is about as normal as population movement goes.

Any cities in those places?

Yeah.  Cities with far more conservative governments than those in NY and Illinois.

Ah, well then, I guess New York is basically a ghost town at this point

Good poinmt, thanks.  I know some split couples, but that is purely anecdotal, and I bet statistically you are correct.

I wondered if Trump made this split wider, I think he appeals more to men than women.

I can't imagine why.

There aren't many large cities with "conservative governments".  Miami maybe.  San Diego?  Probably not.  I'm not sure what a conservative mayor would do especially, maybe hire more cops.

Nobody suggested NY was a ghost town.

It is a fact that NYC population is declining, and fairly rapidly.

City governments in Dallas and Houston are more conservative than their counterparts around the country.

And of course the state governments in Florida and Texas also heavily influence the local politics.

I didn't think I needed to explain this to the extreme of pedantry but here we are.

I'd say "relatively conservative", then, certainly some city governments are quite "liberal" in terms of law enforcement issues.  That is probably the main one I can think of.
