And of all things, Canada wanted a proviso added to be able to kick counties out.  Back in the day, Turkey and Greece were going at it pretty hard, and Article V was not invoked.

Any treaty should have an exit clause.

Kind of odd Canada isn't ponying up, eh. US having a defense pact with Canada and Mexico makes complete sense- even though Mexico has never been invited into NATO. Because: geography.

US having a defense pact with the entirety of Europe makes zero sense. Because: Soviet Union disintegrated 30+ years ago...oh and....geography.

true, but if the US leadership wants a country in or out- that country would be in our out. 

NATO = puppet of the United States. If the United States ever came to it's senses and withdrew, NATO would collapse faster than Tyreek Hill can run a 40 yard dash in.

Canada is not going to be kicked out.  There is no mechanism for it.  They will continue to mouth platitudes and promises and invest little in defense because they don't have to.  Germany has done this for decades.  "Hey, I promise to lose weight and drink less."  Sure.

yeah they aren't going to be kicked out, no one is. US likes having it's footprint all over Europe with NATO. they are't giving that up- and have foolishly only tried expanding it.

Canada is the only country in NATO that I'd argue the US should have a defense pact with. Because: geography!

I think the F14 was closer to 50 years. It was the plane in the movie you paraphrased and it wasn't brand new then.

My guess would be that we only need the F-22 and F-35 and F-117 and B-2 for the tiny handful of world powers that we ABSOLUTELY DO NOT WANT to go to war with. 

While the aging fleets of F-14, F-15, F-16, F-18, and B-52 are more than sufficient for kicking the crap out of literally anyone else in the world, because we establish air superiority on day 1 of the war and then they have nothing that can remotely challenge us.

I agree and I'll add this:
We probably don't even need them for that.  If we got into an actual "all out" war with one of those planes wouldn't be the main thrust anyway, instead we'd be launching ICBM's from submarines.
