We drive to the grocery store, I have walked there before but that was when we were out for a walk anyway and I thought we needed an item or three. There is a good Tahi restaurant nearby and my wife likes to stop there for lunch. (We have walked there as well, it's about a mile to Kroger and less to the Thai place.)
There are a number of sports bar places near us, none of them remarkably good, none of them terrible. Taco Mac has something like 100 beers on tap. I don't need or want that many. There is a new one we haven't tried though we peeked inside and looked at their menu. It replaced a mediocre sushi place and isn't in an ideal location for traffic.
The places somewhat out of the way seem to struggle for business unless they are really really good, and out of the way can be 100 feet off the main drag. A mediocre place on the main drag will be packed and 100 feet away is a much better place half full.
