people

It's ALL the SAME party!!!!

They are all in it for more power and money.
None of them care about doing the right things for their country.
Maybe I still have some idealism that the world hasn't yet killed, but I don't believe this is true. I honestly believe that a lot of people go into politics wanting to do things for the good of the country. I think even in Congress, a lot of them on both sides believe that what they're pushing for is good for the country. I honestly believe that every President of my lifetime--except one--has held the good of the country as their overarching duty to foster and protect, and put the country's needs/wants before his own.

I think there are a lot of things where power corrupts them, and where they find themselves doing things they don't believe in because of the need to keep that power. But I consider a good portion of that being just due to the fact that politics is messy and complicated. You have to work together to get what you want accomplished, and sometimes that means accepting some things you'd rather not have. If you want to have "perfect" principles and vote no on any legislation that's not 100% perfect, you can easily do that on your couch; your district/state will elect someone who does something. (Or in the Libertarian Party, where you don't have to compromise at all because you can affect nothing.)

none of them is too strong

the problem is the new guy gets to washington with great ambitions and intentions

then gets indoctrinated into the machine

the other experienced folks tell them, this is how it works.  and it squashes the effort by the folks that want to do the right thing

Doc Tom Osborne told many stories of why it was bullshit and why he couldn't put up with it.

He went home and gave up.

I think it's a mix, if we're talking about Congress.  Maybe they started altruistically, but reality sets in for many and they simply fall in love with their status and want to be reelected.  Why in the world would ANY 70+ year old be running for reelection?

When you retire, you become a nobody.  (If you were always a nobody, it's not big deal.)  I think hey can't stand the idea of walking into a resturant and not being noticed, not being asked their opinion, not playing the games.  So, their primary and almost sole motivation becomes getting reelected, at 70+.

And of course if their party wins the White House, they have even more influence.  Look at who the Ambassador to say France is.

Ambassador Biography - U.S. Embassy & Consulates in France (usembassy.gov)
Ambassador Biography - U.S. Embassy & Consulates in France (usembassy.gov)

At least she is said to speak French.  This is a plum assignment.  It goes to folks who aided the President's election big time.

“It’s like, ‘You can’t include that, that will set him off,’ or ‘Put that in, he likes that,’” said one senior administration official. “It’s a Rorschach test, not a briefing. Because he is not a pleasant person to be around when he’s being briefed. It’s very difficult, and people are scared shitless of him.”

The official said, “He doesn’t take advice from anyone other than those few top aides, and it becomes a perfect storm because he just gets more and more isolated from their efforts to control it.”

Other flips have been more weird. Russia is one. I can't imagine the party of Ronald Reagan complaining about military aid to Ukraine to halt Russian expansion. Yet here we are. I won't say that the Republican Party has become "pro-Russia", but they've gone from being the anti-Russia party to more along the "eh, we don't like what Putin is doing but we'd just rather not be involved" party. I don't get it.
This one I completely understand because it applies to me and what I can't understand is the opposite.  I'll explain:

I was five when Reagan was elected in 1980 and 14 when the Berlin Wall came down in 1989.  When I was a kid in the 1980's the USSR had 50k tanks in Central Europe ready to pour through the Fulda Gap.  I believed that this was an existential threat to the continued existence of West Germany, France, and other Western European NATO Allies of the United States.

I further believed that West Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Belgium, et al were vital strategic interests of the United States.

Based on the above, I believed in the US side of the Cold War.  I cheered when Reagan said "Tear Down This Wall" and cheered more when the Wall actually did fall.

Back then the leftists thought Reagan was a warmonger and by extension they thought that I and all those on my side were warmongers.  They fought against Reagan and for a softer approach to the USSR.

Fast forward to today.  The Wall has been down for 35 years, Russia (not the USSR's) tanks are mostly decrepit Cold War relics, and literally NONE of them are in Central Europe nor a credible threat to Germany (unified, not West/East) nor any other vital strategic interest of the United States.

In my opinion, Ukraine simply is NOT a vital strategic interest of the United States.  Further, it clearly is a vital strategic interest of Russia considering that it is adjacent and was under some form of Russian rule for centuries.

Further still, Russia is in an odd military situation.  Their conventional military frankly isn't all that good.  A lot of it is made up of, as I called them above, decrepit Cold War relics.  Realistically, they simply aren't a viable threat to the United States let alone the combined force of NATO in a conventional war.  However, they still have a MASSIVE nuclear arsenal.  That makes them VERY dangerous because their weak conventional military gives them very little choice but to resort to ICBM's and WMD if they feel threatened.  In my opinion, we should not risk a war with a nuclear-armed adversary over something that is vitally important to them and is NOT vitally important to us.

Now explain to me why the Democrats didn't think Russia (as USSR) was an existential threat to vital US Strategic interests in the 1980's when they actually were and yet now that they actually are NOT, a slew of Democrats do think that they are a threat that should be confronted in Ukraine (significantly east of the Fulda Gap).

Well I'm guessing whoever found these all had a rough day too--clearly they weren't hitting it well if the ended up where my ball did :57:

As an aside, I've spent the last several years not using unique markings on my golf balls. I was playing the Snell MTB-X in "Optic Yellow" and so I knew if I found one of those in the woods/rough, it was rare enough that I was sure it was my ball. Now I've run out of those (and they're discontinued) so I'm on yellow Kirkland golf balls, which I have to mark as I'm sure they're going to be a lot more common. I don't write my name on them though lol...

I don't use yellow balls
the range at my home course uses yellow balls and is adjacent to #10.

I tried a couple boxes of Kirkland balls but found out they were a high spin ball, especially off the driver
I have too much spin with the driver and even long irons.
High ball flight
I assume I'm losing distance
and at my age, I'm losing enuff distance

I would like to try the Snell
I've hit a few Vice balls that I've found, they seem fine.

I mark my white balls with a Big RED triangle over the titlest name
