At least around here, I'm told by several reliable sources that there is plenty of housing for the homeless, both shelters and Section 8 apartments and other kinds of places.  They point to the problem I've been discussing.

Take some woman subject to physical abuse and has to leave her husband and his house (or their house).  She's literally out on the street unless she has friends or family to take her in.  She needs shelter, beyond maybe her car.  Give her two kids.  That issue is generally well managed, at least around here, and they can get her up on her feet relatively quickly.  But then she is replaced, as I say, with another similar situation.  So, the numbers show a lot of them being homeless, but their situation is manageable, UNLESS they are drug addicted or insane, which is generally not the case.

If we walk 3 miles here, which is normal, we'll see 2-3 homeless, nearly always men, nearly always black.  They are VERY difficult to help.  One agency here has a good track record even with them, but they are unfortunately small and have high requirements most of these men can't accept.

Yeah it helps provide a supply of labor to build more houses
Keep ignoring demand.

There are thousands upon thousands of FEMA trailers that are sitting unused right now, in fields being rented by FEMA. These housed people after Hurricane Ian.

How about some dickhead deadbeat from HUD talks to some dickhead deadbeat at FEMA?

Yeah... right.
I was thinking through this a little more.

How about taking those trailers to areas on the Southern border and building encampments to house immigrants (legally) as they await their day in Court? Yes, it involves infrastructure in the form of water supply, wastewater distribution and electricity. Build a school for immigrant children. Provide job training for immigrants. It's a humane solution.

Yes, it will cost a lot of money, but nowhere near the amount that mass illegals are costing.

People live in trailer parks all over this country. Why not use these dormant trailers on the border? The all have hookups for water, waste and power, and they have AC and heat.

I can't imagine Congress would pass up this opportunity. It would be bipartisan without question. Only a few radicals would vote against it. Public opinion would be very much in favor.

So, the immigrants who came here for a better life and a job (some of them) would just sit idle in trailers for months or years?  Schools?  Playgrounds?  Jobs?  Grocery stores?  Maybe you could construct an entire town or hundred.

A neat looking new development here, close into downtown:

Food would need to be communal and delivered fresh and frozen.

Schools would be on-site.

Jobs would involve bussing. This occurs all over the country already.

Constructing a town is not required.

As for the bolded part, that's where immigration reform needs to be addressed. We need more judges - pay them and they will come.

The number of trailers available right now, at no cost (already sunk), is staggering and could probably accommodate up to 20K people at a time.

Remain in Mexico is back in play as others occupy the trailers. Faster processing is key. You're either in, or you are escorted out.

Maybe we should have a golf match between T and B to decide it all, with close refereeing.  The winner becomes Vice President, the loser goes home.

Does anyone here use coffee shops routinely?  I don't quite understand the appeal.  Is it for wifi?  Maybe back in the day.  Is it for a quick jolt of caffeine in the afternoon?  Is it a social thing?  Is it just something to do, a kind of habit?

My daughter went through a CS phase for a while, I think now she goes more infrequently.  She told me for her is was a habit, a break in the afternoon perhaps, or the morning jolt.  Now they have coffee where she works.

I no longer drink coffee, but I've also never been to Starbucks, ever.

In many ways it serves a very similar function to neighborhood taverns which for decades dominated cities as an after work social stop.   Still hanging on by a thread in certain places.  It was not unusual to see liquid lunches as late as 90s in my experience in Milwaukee

Habit, ritual, social stop, among other attributes.
Of course social mores around drinking and driving coupled with generally less drinking by millennial and Zs have hastened the slide.

The local coffee shop is pretty lively. I don't really go to it, but it's usually pretty well attended even in the evenings, and they have live music.

It's noteworthy that the anti sugar and soda crowd never takes issue w Starbucks which likely serves more sugar bombs to teens and adults than coke and Pepsi combined.
