The first answer about it is unfortunately often that the other side did it first, which implies that it is in some way ok (if the other side is OK with their riots). 

It’s unfortunate the tear gas wasn’t broken out. Would’ve solved a lot, I think.

Instead Nancy cancelled the National Guard being called and many of the police actually escorted protesters around

Our Founders clearly tried to circumvent what they realized to be the case (above) by having only one Federal office directly elected.  And the states then retained considerable power, including who got to vote (mostly land owning white men of course, who might be thought of as being more educated than the unwashed).

If one reviews the elections of say 1800 and 1876, one might think those well washed white men didn't do a great job either.

With all due respect, everyone knew what could happen, and it happened. The warning signs were there, and those in charge of security (NP) did nothing to prevent it.

Because they (she) didn't want to. Security was turned down.

It's now a convenience for some that a bunch of unarmed yahoo idiots entered the Capitol (mostly in peace). It will be talking point until November. It's useful.

In time, additional facts will come out, just as they always do. I have my theory and I'm not alone in it. Time will tell.
