Nothing USEFUL.

Just political panderings and negative actions.  The BCI would typically be called in to review cop shootings anyway unless it was clear cut (and maybe even then).  They come in and rubber stamp the local investigation of an OIS, yay.

It's akin to the climate change.  The "legislation" passed under some guise of reducing inflation would spend about $37 billion a year on climate change stuff.

That's a great example of my point.  Throw a bit of money at it.

The various estimates for the cost to reach "net zero" by 2050 hover around $50 TRILLION.  With a "T", call it $2 TRILLIOn a year, which probably also isn't enough.  We allocated billions to build, so far, EIGHT EV charging stations.  The private sector has built many more than that in the same time period.

I personally witnessed two "BLM Protests", both were mostly young white folks signaling how they aren't racists.  Then they returned to their lattes and $3K a month apartments and felt smug.  The police here disappeared for about a week.  They just parked their cruisers somewhere and did a "blue out", I witnessed this personally as well, as we usually see police out and about when we walk.  And crime went up.  Yay.

Fortunately, that is back to normal around here pretty much.

I'm all for legal sane protests if someone feels the need, have at it if it makes you feel better.  It's not going to do anything useful with very few exceptions.

I stayed up 60 straight hours through one in Kenosha. We finally left for another harbor after we reported ~50 gas cans in a pickup truck bed, parked in the marina lot. I think we prevented a harbor fire by reporting this.

Rittenhouse put an end to it, thankfully, even though he shouldn't have been there.

BLM resulted in BCI here investigating all cop shootings and the prosecutors running on how they would prosecute cops. One can question whether that is positive, but questioning whether it is real change is silly.
And the crime rate in Columbus has skyrocted. Was that a positive?

One positive for us is that the state gained a lot of police officers since 2020.

Signing bonuses and relocation assistance no doubt helped, but the impetus was other cities treating their officers like dirt. So, they came here (and to other police-friendly places).

But this is mostly based on your imagination. If you look at everything that occurs and then declare it "unuseful," well, there is no combatting imagination. Quite a bit has occurred in direct response to the BLM protests. You may not like the things, or you may not think the things sufficiently do whatever you think they are supposed to do. But to deny it happened is just farts in the wind. Protests are certainly one of the more effective tools of change people have. Certainly, more useful and effective than wonky talks. I guarantee the people at the Congressional baseball game are more keyed up about climate change now than if they had read an article about it.

Well, not really. Most of the increase in crime has been teenagers stealing Kias and Hyundais, and doubtful that is related to anything but them being extremely easy to steal

Being "easy to steal" is NOT a valid point in dismissing the crime.

I've seen some clowns comment that these thefts are the fault of Hyundai. That is just plain dumb.

It is a pretty valid point if you are trying to understand crime rates and why they go up and down. It is not Hyundai's "fault," though that is different to whether they have responsibility in making their cars really easy to steal. In any event, that has been an issue, and the homicide rate has been up and down, though other crime certainly hasn't exploded.

The crime spike obviously was a lot more than car theft.

And it likely had multiple causes, including lack of policing.

How could you guarantee such a thing?  I'd "guarantee" they are mostly annoyed at the silly protest.

But maybe somehow magically we'll see some new raft of legislation on climate change?  I think not.  It's silly.  They should go play in traffic.

PPI report: Wholesale prices unexpectedly fell 0.2% in May (cnbc.com)
Isnt this kind of misleading

Wholesale prices actually increased by .1%

The decrease they lead with was how it did vs expectations

Sounds kinda like fake news to me
