Yeah, but the weird thing is that the people who would ordinarily make a big deal out of cheating on your pregnant [third] wife and banging a porn star are his biggest supporters.

I guess because... Abortion?
Question... How many people here think that DJT hasn't paid for at least one abortion in his life? :57:
You already know this but Abortion, Judges who actually read the Constitution, support on a host of other issues.

You've described yourself as a Libertarian.  We all have to make choices.  I think it was @utee94 upthread who explained that you have to pick a candidate who represents your views most closely.

Libertarians usually agree with Republicans on Economic issues and Democrats on Social issues (there are exceptions obviously) and at some point you have to decide whether you prefer the candidate with the Economic policies you love and the Social policies you loathe or the candidate with the Economic policies you loathe and the Social policies you love.

I know several women who are STRONGLY pro-life (mostly Catholics) but who actually lean Democratic on nearly every other issue.  These women are some of the most reliable Republican voters out there because to them Abortion is literally murder and stopping the murders is the absolute #1 priority bar none.  Imagine that is your situation and you are confronted with a choice between:
  • A candidate who by your own ideology is probably a murderer but who promises to appoint judges who will stop the murders, or
  • A candidate who probably isn't a murderer (nobody said Biden didn't pay for any abortions but I guess it was just assumed?) but who promises to appoint judges who will keep the murders going on and on and on.
If that was your situation, it is a dirty choice but also pretty obvious.

Yeah, if you want a humorous show about how useless the VP position is, and have HBO/Max, check out Veep. Julia Louis-Dreyfus plays the VP and she's just constantly getting marginalized.

One of the funny things is that every time she is getting back to her office she's asking her admin "Sue, did the President call?" and the answer is always no.

I get that re: the general election, but you'd think that evangelicals as a group would have thrown their weight behind literally any other Republican in the primaries. Yet so many seem to love him.

The crazy thing about it is that I've said about 2016 that the Democrats and Republicans BOTH nominated literally the worst candidate they could. I'm confident that any other Democrat in 2016 would have beaten Trump, and any other Republican in 2016 would have trounced Hillary by a wide margin.

I feel like the Republicans did it again in 2024. Instead of nominating someone without the massive disapproval numbers that Trump has who could likely mop the floor with Biden, they literally nominated the only person that Biden has shown empirically that he can beat in the general, at least once.

All of that said, the whole situation just proves that Trump is a moron.  The national press knew about the Edwards/Hunter situation for years and chose not to report it.  It only came out because the Enquirer found out and publicized it.  If Trump thought that he would get the same "kid gloves" treatment from the press that Edwards got, he is colossally stupid.
If you believe that then you have not been paying attention

If you really and truly want to understand this, look at your own condescending A-hole attitude when referring to anyone even vaguely to the Right of Center.

There are a whole lot of Right of Center people out there who see and hear that (not just from you) on a daily basis and would literally vote for anyone to piss off the people who refer to them like that.  The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
Voting in at attempt to piss someone off isn't a good reason to vote.

Now you are suggesting stuff that isnt supported by anything to bash Trump

Trump does enough things he can be criticized for you dont need to invent things

You are either the most dishonest person I've ever encountered or you lack reading comprehension skills that all adults let alone college graduate teachers should have because you do this all the time.

@MaximumSam called the US a "rolling demonstration of the power of free flowing immigration."

I answered by pointing out that:
  • It has not always been that way, and
  • The US accomplished quite a bit during a nearly half-century long period of extremely restricted immigration.
You ignored anything resembling context and beat up a strawman.

So @OrangeAfroMan are you a compulsive liar or retarded?
Your little list there looked like a summary to me.
No one can strawman your positions, because they're too weak.

I don't think he's a moron. I think he's an asshole who needs to keep his mouth shut more often.

I also think he did a good job in office.

Great economy until the pLandemic. No new wars. Border secure. Energy independent. Strong military. Tough stance on our biggest enemies. But mean tweets. Yeah, OK. See shutting mouth comment above.

I wouldn't have dinner with him. I wouldn't be his friend. And I don't have to be friends with him.

Just do the job he might get hired to do. That's all I give a shit about.

We deserve whatever happens.

We are practically under dynastic rule, or were (Bush, Bush...Clinton, almost Clinton).  We now have a baffoon game show host vying for a 2nd!?! term.

It's embarrassing.

We're done.  Our nomination process is broken.  Urbanites and country folk are at each other's throats.  The 20 year-old generation would lose a war against Switzerland.

We had a good run.  How long before we're just another Russia - a paper tiger with nukes?
We earned and deserve all of it.

This is a hysterical inversion of truth.

The US never had free flowing immigration until the late 1960's.

The US imposed severe restrictions on immigration in the 1920's and in the 40-odd years after that the US (partial list)
  • Won the largest war ever fought
  • Became the dominant world power
  • Invented the Atomic Bomb
  • Possessed an economy that at the end of WWII was the equal of the entire rest of the world combined
  • Saw real wages rise to unprecedented levels even for unskilled laborers
Then those 1920's restrictions were repealed and enforcement became lax (at best) and since then
  • our relative power in the world has fallen
  • Our economic power has fallen even more dramatically
  • Real wages for those below the median have fallen dramatically
  • Income inequality has risen
You could equally say that the restrictions on immigration triggered the Great Depression, and with every immigration restriction economic woe has followed. This is technically true, though very much cherry picking. Congress ended the Chinese Exclusion Act in 1943, and two years later we won World War 2. Coincidence?

But your main thesis that we at one point had very restrictive immigration policies and then repealed all of them is just flat out wrong. While policies have changed, the main thing that has changed is the complete lack of attention to the needs of business and labor and instead more and more government power over who can come and who can work and who can hire them, followed by recent increases in border security.

The number one problem is that our immigration system is deaf to the needs of country. We had a system for unskilled workers to enter the country and work up until 1965, which seems to suggest, given your examples, that getting rid of it was a mistake. It is something that people talk about people moving to Florida as a sign that Florida is doing well, then in the same breathe talk about people moving to the United States as a reason for its imminent failure. Nonsensical, is what I'm saying.
