I'd rather live in a tent than in some of the "homes" I saw in Egypt.
There was one very odd thing, to me, the "houses" are square blocks of 2-3-4 stories, the newer ones anyway, and they nearly all (95%) had columns on the roofs with rebar sticking straight up as if the next story was never built and the house was unfinished, but clearly folks lived in the lower floors.
Egypt has built several "new cities" of a million people with apartment blocks going for miles and miles, all the same 4 story block houses, in the middle of nowhere. One was along the canal, it took us ~30 minutes to pass it. It was on the east side, the Sinai, and there isn't a lot of means to get across the canal in a car or train.
