My idea is to ask:  why stop there? Why not go down to the county level?
.
That would be up to the state

Im not sure why a state would want to do that but I think its in their power to do so if they want it

The reason for a state to do that would be allowing the people to legislate it in their areas.  ANYONE who props up "let the states decide for themselves" has to acknowledge that letting each county decide for themselves is the same idea, just better.
.
If not, then you're just being politically blind.
.
It means more people are pleased with the outcome.  Isn't that what it's all about?  Take Texas - the state goes no abortions, angering majorities in the blue counties.  But if each county decides, there are no angry majorities.  Doing it state-by-state is like painting with a roller, but leaving it up to each county, you're painting with a brush.
.
This is an honest-to-goodness middle-line, moderate idea I'm putting out there.  I really don't see any problem with it.

Erdogan says Turkey will block Sweden and Finland from joining NATO- which requires unanimous consent from current members to add new members. THANK GOD that there is an adult in the room. Even if that adult happens to be an ahole dictator thug like Erdogan. Sweden and Finland really are very much worthless to NATO anyway. Turkey on the other hand is of great strategic and geographical importance for obvious reasons. US will be PISSED obviously as NATO expansion is an openly stated imperial goal of the worlds lone imperial superpower,  but not sure there's much they can or will do about it.

Interesting

Did Turkey say why they will block

Interesting

Did Turkey say why they will block
he's blaming Scandinavian countries for being harborers of "terrorist organizations" - the SDF and YPG.

He's also not stupid. He knows Sweden and Finland joining NATO would probably just make this thing spill over. He doesn't want Turkey fighting a hot World War III with Russia- a country he shares a border with.

Maybe this is the beginning of the end of NATO.
can't come fast enough as far as I'm concerned.

I'd LOVE to see the US war machine that spends about $1 trillion a year on "defense" (when you take into account everything) get a hatchet taken to it and cut dramatically back by at least 75%. US would still be far and away leader in the entire world on defense spending if that were to happen and they shrunk it down to a "measly" $250 billion a year.

There is literally no reason to spend as much as we do on "defense" other than out and out corruption and imperialism. None. This country is $31 TRILLION in debt, runs deficits until the end of god damn time, lost it's entire manufacturing capability (which is what made it great), has crumbling infrastructure, doesn't even have baby food for half the f***king babies in this country like we're a 3rd world shithole- and more than 30 million American still don't have health care- yet they want to invent money and pull it out of their asses $40 billion here- $100 billion here- at a time- for war. F***K. THAT. SH*T.

I'm not suggesting anything be mandated, I'm saying it's a better idea.

It's not about a political party hurting itself.  If I live in Arizona and want an abortion, wouldn't I prefer to go to a nearby county to get it done rather than a whole other state?
If I live in the middle of Nebraska, wouldn't I rather drive to Omaha to get it rather than all the way to Denver?
.
It's about more people getting their way.
Your county-by-county presidential voting map is a more accurate portrayal of reality than a state-by-state map, no?  Same idea.

It may be a better idea but I don't see it happening.

There often is a chance for a country in this situation to gain advantage by appearing to not support a thing, they want quid pro quo.
